I dropped my F31 340 off at Sytner this morning for a service, I got the usual chit chat concerning am I happy with the car, would I like to look at anything else while I wait - to which I said the only thing BMW I'd likely consider changing into is the new 340i touring, the chap I was talking to said it would be about two months until they had their demonstrator, to which I took to mean the saloon.

Scratch that last comment, just been to collect my car and they (Sytner Nottingham) do have an M340i saloon in the showroom.

So if that means they will have an M340i Touring in two months time it begs the question why that model still isn't showing on the BMW configurator; presumably you can spec and price them up at a dealer even though you can't do it online?!

Seriously if you can find a UK review of the actual final production car you’re a better googler than me.
There's plenty of stuff from when the car was launched (driving round the Portimao circuit in the Algarve, etc) and there are videos of production cars being reviewed and tested in places like North America; however, I haven't seen or read any reviews of a UK-spec production M340i driven on our roads. I'd imagine the first of those reviews will be coming very soon but nothing published yet as far as I'm aware.....
Well that’s exactly my point but someone was telling me I just needed to google.

Considering one of these but also tempted to save myself a few quid and get the 330i given normal driving I won't get to open out the 340i that often

I keep going from being rather practical to thinking ah just fk it.

I was close to getting an Alfa Giulia veloce but the dealer fked me round.

Reading all the reviews in the 3 series and having sat in one it seems a belter. Sadly my local dealers only seem to have 320d to drive.

I saw a touring at the BMWCar Club national day. I’m holding out to replace my 335d touring with a 340i, expected early 2020. Hope it’s worth waiting for

And that's before you even bought the car.

The service from Alfa worsens after you've bought one of their products - take it from someone who got stung, gave the Alfa back, then bought a 440i.

The Alfa was amazing to drive, but that B58 engine is fantastic ... The service from BMW so far has also been second to none.

And that is exactly what has put me off. Now is the time they have the most skin in the game and they are still useless.

Is it the same engine in the 540i, head one the other day and it was glorious. Stunning car too, really nicely spec'd

Tempted by a 5, but want a bit more agility, hence the 3 and where i was with the alfa. Was so much fun to drive, go kart style, and those paddle shifters....

I test drove a 540i this weekend, nice enough car but wasn’t blown away with it, seriously need to consider if it’s worth the 25mpg.

I was in my local BMW dealer at the weekend. They want to get me into something new to replace my current 340i touring.

I’m due to change in March next year and when I said I’m only really interested in 340i (M or normal) touring, they have told me they’ve only just got visibility of builds on the std 340 saloon recently and aren’t certain either M or non-M versions of the touring will be available for delivery until end of q1 next year....

They are now trying to get me into 540i for “similar” money.....
Last summer the bucketshop price of a 540i Touring was 4k down and 488/month on a 4y PCP
The F31 340i was 4k down and 430/month so "similar" in terms of man maths

Its likely I'll look at the M340 after Christmas so would you mind sharing the current deals?

Cheers

Well there is at least one M340i Touring in the Country, it was out at the BMW HQ Pistonheads Sunday Service yesterday

I guess this was BMW's demonstrator or maybe a press car, looked really good in this spec, even the grill didn't look too bad.... i was very impressed. hope to replace my F31 with one next year.

Barons BMW appear to have some listed on their Sept sales event?

Know what you mean. Very ordinary and unremarkable.

I was there yesterday too and completely missed that! Spent too much time in the multi-storey car park LOL

You’d have to be Mr Leadfoot or do very short journeys to get that mpg. I’ve just got 40 mpg on a 400 mile run, normally around 33 on local journeys.

It's essentially the same engine, but the 540i is in a lesser state of tune. Think it's around 330bhp / 450nm whereas the M340i will be 372bhp / 500nm.

I've got the MPPSK on my 440i so it's currently 360bhp / 500nm and it's plenty quick enough and VERY loud in sport.

I owned the Alfa for two months before rejecting it, and admittedly it was like a go kart ... Fantastic to drive.

Weirdly the BMW is easily better on fuel. I couldn't get above 31mpg in the Alfa on my commute no matter how I drove, yet hit 39mpg plenty of times in the 440i.

Thanks for the reply, apart from a short 200m foot down I drove it quite gently and and trip said 27mpg, HJ mpg has it at 28.2 average which was not far off what I got. Good to hear what others are getting though.

Anything else to look out on these, I’m thinking of a very lightly optioned one to keep the cost down, seems a good basic spec anyway.

One man's meat is another man's poison; that looks good to me, all it needs is a debadge and it's an excellent Q-car (which is perfect for a daily driver as far as I'm concerned!). smile

However, although the existence of this car suggests UK deliveries of G21 M340i's might not be too far away, there's still no sign of being able to build one on the configurator....

Perfect daily. Definitely going on my list for the future.
