Got a 15% off connected drive upgrades so bought the Sat Nav update, all 36GB so had to get a 64GB USB stick for it! Now the question, can I use the idrive for music or DAB while it's updating? Plan to do it tomorrow on a longish drive.

IIRC I don't think so; best to not interrupt it I've found

I just let my previous F01 and current F31 do it on the driveway whilst idling etc

I started my 240i last night and noticed a rattling, almost howling sound accompanied by the smell of burning rubber. The serpentine belt was slipping under load, smoke coming off the bottom pulley when I revved it. I managed to limp it home with low revs and the a/c off, and it's now at the garage. The noise was coming from the belt tensoner, it wasn't holding the belt tight at all either. The garage has just contacted me to tell me that the bottom pulley is starting to collapse too, so a cheapish fix has just become a lot less cheap... Not impressed that this would happen at just 33k miles. irked

I had been getting the occasional rattle at cold start that would only happen for a few seconds, and wouldn't happen if the a/c was off. It had been to the garage a few times where, of course, it never did it. At least it looks like we've got to the bottom of the problem at least.

My F10 535d spends most of its time on motorways and the front shows it. This arrived this morning, never used touch up paint before so I'll probably need to book it in for a respray by the end of the weekend.

These are the Chipex ones that come with their kits but there are others that do the job just as well - and come in a variety of sizes.

Next day delivery...

These...

That's terrible. How old? BMW serviced? I'd be seeing if BMW would offer anything good will, especislly if its been serviced or well short of the recommended replacement.

I've driven an e39 530i manual. I didn't exactly love it, as in the feel of changing gear. I only drove it 2 or 3 times for maybe a couple of hours - long story I can't get into. But then I've also driven an e39 528i auto - for several months - and yes the box is a bit slow-ish. I can't say for definite if I'd prefer manual. What makes you want a manual?
All 4 E39s I had were auto; but I've driven a manual 530i and 540i as well as an M5 and they all did very well... However, they were well serviced boxes and with short shifters fitted, which makes a good deal of difference

I'm not sure I'd go for an E39 unless a really good one crops up and worth my time & money; I'm more inclined to look at an E46 or E90 / E92 for a weekend, manual car

Or as said previously; go right off piste and into a Honda biggrin
The I bought was definitely standard and a bit tired.

2019. 3 BMW services, two indie. I hadn't considered contacting BMW tbh with it being five years old.

Interesting. The Sat Nav update has been missing from the store for our F10 and F20 for a couple of months. The help desk acknowledged it as a known issue and said getting the dealer to do it was the only alternative.

Just checked and the Sat Nav update is still missing for both cars.

Like you it was missing for my F31 when I wanted to do it

An odd set of circumstances have led me to press the 5.7 litre V12 BMW E38 into action as a daily driver.

I can confirm everything works perfectly and it is an excellent daily driver biggrin

Alcantara cleaning solution arrived today.

So that'll be tomorrows little job.

I've new genuine M Performance mats to slip in to the car too. I got a weird bundle deal from Cotswold BMW on the M Performance steering wheel and carbon fibre insert and the mats but never got around to putting them in.

Not a life changing upgrade but they have the three BMW M colours threaded around the edge which will match the steering wheel threads.

Luckily had someone who had done it before, I would have been well out of depth. Had to cut the rear door cards to fit the new speakers etc, couldn't find anyone breaking one with the logic 7 door cards in cream.

But 100% worth the upgrade.
Result beer

The standard sounds in the E60 werent great IIRC.

Wifes Z4 is going to need new rears on it soon.

The current tyres would have been the original set and shes got around 12,000 miles out of them which isnt too bad.

Not a cheap size fitment at 275/35 R19.

Black Circles coming in at around £520 fitted for two, with a 10% code applied.

Interesting how big the rear tyres are on the Z4: 275 is big especially compared to how narrow tyres are on things like the M140i.
