Went to go out this morning in the G31 and was greeted with a red add coolant immediately warning. I checked the expansion tank and sure enough, it was empty without any visible leaks in the engine bay or on the ground. Added just over a litre of water to get the warning off - did some bits and then called BMW customer service assist
I have the EGR recall and one of the symptoms is coolant loss. Sure enough they said they'll recover the vehicle from my home and look to inspect and replace the EGR if that is truly the issue. This was done within 2 hours.
I'm just waiting on a hire car as I need to travel for the rest of the week.
Hoping it's nothing more serious..
Yup, exactly that happened to my brother's G31 530d. The worse than useless dealer that did the EGR recall didn't put one of the EGR cooler pipes back on properly.I have the EGR recall and one of the symptoms is coolant loss. My brother's 530d ended up overheating and leaving him stranded. He knows less than zero about cars unfortunately. Absolutely zero Fs given by the dealer, in spite of them causing the problem. Thankfully no permanent damage. Pretty stout engines BMW diesels
I will never, ever be using a main dealer, ever again, ever, until the end of time. Their level of incompetence and indifference needs a new word in the Collins dictionary.
Additional gummi-plefge on the E39 door seals today after slightly sticky frosty doors this morning.
Not today but in the last week I have taken the E34 out for an instrument whizz to see what Alpina cluster I have fitted in an effort to determine to how to get the B10 BiTurbo Touring running properly - mine ran beautifully on a B-road and motorway run and I am so glad I retro-fitted the Cruise Control components to the already fitted loom in the car.
The E38 was taken out last weekend for a 200 mile round trip to see relatives. Both my wife and daughter are super busy so while I sat up front and chauffeured they did essays and emails spread out across the long wheelbase back seats on the way there, and then fell asleep in the reclining and heated rear seats on the later drive home. I had been toying about selling the B12 and perhaps buying an Aston Martin Rapide, because, y'know, Aston, but there is no way they would be able to work and be nearly as comfortable in a Rapide than they would in an ancient lwb E38, so I have binned the idea.

That is immensely cool and I want one now! ...even for the driver...
In E38 B12 5.7 lwb form there were just two cars sold in the UK and two more rhd Japanese spec cars both of which are now in the UK. There were a few rhd Japanese spec lwb B12 6.0 cars too and at least one is in the UK. Of all the UK cars mine is highest spec with the full rear AC, TV and VHS/DVD player.

I have, and I saw it a few years ago when it was close to being scrapped. It is the only full Mora E38 B12 (there is a weird silver over Mora 5.7 car) but due to the tiny numbers of B12 cars made that can be the same for many, many cars. For instance, mine is the only Individual Montreal Blue car E38 B12.McGee_22 said:

Need to do this with all the cars. Thanks for reminding. On Tuesday the 6 series doors were rather sticky and the windows didn't do their usual slight drop on opening.

Are there any alternatives to gummi-plefge? Not that I'm against going out and buying some, but I might have something "on the shelf" that would be ok as well?

WD silicone spray will work; but the Gummi stuff rehydrates the rubber too, which is why it works so wellHe said looking out at the snow this morning (west coast of Ireland).

Collected my G42 from the dealer today after having all four discs along with pads changed under warranty. I'm surprised they all warped as was the dealer considering it's not quite on 3.5k miles and it's only been on the road for 3 months.
Road car brake discs don't warp; the heat needed to do that is nigh on impossible to achieve, more so on all 4 cornersIt will have been brake pad deposits that caused it; but under warranty, they'll just swap them out

Still a stunning car and probably the best E38 in the land......even for the driver...
