Does anyone know if the flappy paddles are removable from the steering wheel - talking E9x era. Looking at a replacement wheel but it has the flappy paddles which I don't want.

IIRC they just unscrew from the inside

Drove the Z4C yesterday it was so nice, I'd forgotten how good the engine is so responsive and car felt so light and nimble compared to the 350d merc I'm smoking around in at the moment, the Z4C has really aged well inside still feels fresh (if you ignore the FM radio and lack of connectivity) the ZF6 even feels good and sharp.

You'll end up with a (large) hole on the back, e.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/256661047492

Ok, ta gents. Might be worth the sacrifice for why I'm looking at the wheel.

If I were to keep them is it straightforward to get them to work with the steptronic ZF6 in a pre-LCI car? Assuming I had the clock spring or whatever it's called.

I wonder if the ZF6 is programmed a bit different in the Z4C? I wasn't a fan of it mated to the N52 engine in the E90 330i to be honest(yet weirdly I thought it matched the E90 330d well though), and it felt sluggish to respond in drive to me, and it hung onto the revs too much in sport for me as well.

I've always been a big fan of the ZF8 though in comparison, and that was a lovely match to the engine in the F13 640d I thought.

They benefit from XHP, for sure. I’ll be able to talk to a direct comparison with the 8HP gearbox as I’m planning on fitting on in the new year, with CANtcu in my E90 330i..

Dunno Lee but it's all relative a few weeks ago I'd be comparing it to the gen2 ZF8 in the 7 series but now I'm comparing it to the utter tripe that is the 9G in my e350d now that really is poor, I can't see that car lasting to the summer to be honest.

It is sad to hear that you're not getting on with it bud I reckon, and it isn't great when you don't gell with a car I think. I've made a few miss steps with cars over the years too annoyingly. It is frustrating for sure.

Totally, Mrs Wills is has it at the moment visiting family in Hampshire and she loves it, I might propose a swap of daily drivers! What I really want is an F82 M4 like you I should have just bought one I was looking at them but then the Merc was put in front of me and was cheap, never mind.

Collected my G42 from the dealer today after having all four discs along with pads changed under warranty. I'm surprised they all warped as was the dealer considering it's not quite on 3.5k miles and it's only been on the road for 3 months.
Road car brake discs don't warp; the heat needed to do that is nigh on impossible to achieve, more so on all 4 corners

It will have been brake pad deposits that caused it; but under warranty, they'll just swap them out
It was the dealer that said they were warped. How can I avoid brake pad deposits doing the same again?

Pad deposits can usually be worn off by some safe/hard braking etc

In the first place; keep off brakes when stationary, use the handbrake etc - its generally that, which causes the pad deposits to build up

This week - boshed a thousand mile+ round-trip from Bath to beyond Edinburgh, to spend 3 get days with my bestest, oldest friend and his fam.

All of which - through snow, sleet, muck, salt-spray, etc, etc, and ambient temp < -2c at all times. An e39 535 (details in profile ) - remains just such a lovely thing for such jaunts!

(& also:
godamn glad I had good screenwash concentrate onboard+ water - went through over 20Litres in under 600 miles %}

)

Now home - car looks like it has just been recovered from a seabed. a good scrub-up shall follow tomorrow : D

Are there any alternatives to gummi-plefge? Not that I'm against going out and buying some, but I might have something "on the shelf" that would be ok as well?

He said looking out at the snow this morning (west coast of Ireland).
WD silicone spray will work; but the Gummi stuff rehydrates the rubber too, which is why it works so well
Thanks, I have silicone spray (Halfords finest) which i do use on a lot of things.

I'll push the boat out though and get some gummi-plefge at least for my old e46 in the garage, it's clean and rust free (nearly!) at the moment, hopefully I can keep it that way.

Already mentioned it, but Fuchs Carbaflo KSP 105 was a 'one and done' for me. It's not cheap (£45 quid, lol), but it works. It also works on creaky interior plastics and leather.

Meguiars Endurance tyre Gel is also excellent for creaky trim rubbers, but needs reapplying every 4th or 5th car wash or so.

Today I put the 330i up for sale.

See how we get on with Ebay and FB marketplace.

Annoyingly I've found 3 E61s to look at, but one the seller is unresponsive (which is the one I reaaaaaaally want)

Fitted a front strut brace to my F30. It made a surprising difference actually. I wasn't expecting much as bracing is usually placebo, but it seems the F3x platform is not as rigid as I first thought!

Really? Which did you go for?

TBH I thought they'd make little to no difference with how rigid the chassis is

At the main dealer for brake fluid change on my m4. Received a nice video that shows a nail in rear tire, supposedly corroded front discs and a rear diff leak…. Looks like I’ll be back
