Spratying silicone in to the window rubbers helps to stop them sticking; spraying some into the actual mech inside the door helps a lot too:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/WD40D-N-A-WD-40-Silicone/...

Gummipfledge on the door seals, liberally helps a lot also:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/WOL-Seal-Lubricant-Treatm...

Re door handles; my E39s were a sod for this - always sprayed WD40 into the locking mechs to rid any diurt & water build up; let that evaporate and then resprayed with white lithium grease. Never had issues after that

https://www.amazon.co.uk/WD-40-N-A-Lithium-Grease/...

It's what I've done to our F31 and E81 and it was -8ºC here last night with some light snow early hours too; both cars opened with zero issues; the windows on my E81 dropped as they should when I opened the doors

I struggled to get the window to drop in the F82 M4 this morning as well with it being a Coupe. Strangely the door handles never give me any jip like the X5's do though as you say in comparison.
Same on my M240 yesterday and today. Warm water poured around the window edge and it eventually let me in. This morning when I arrived at work it had frozen up again (-5 outside) and wouldn't let me out! irked
It was the worse day for me as well today. It was -4.5 and I just couldn't get it to drop, so I had to drive with my hand on the door handle to make sure it stayed shut, then I was worried that I wouldn't be able to lock it. Luckily when I got to my destination it finally dropped so I could lock it.

I did say to my missus that I'm going to try the warm water route if it does it again tomorrow now as you say.

What made it worse was I hit a bit of ICE on a tight right hander as I turned in, it slung the rear out, but I wasn't really ready for it because I only had one had on the door and one hand on the wheel! Fun and bloody games! hehe

I've ordered the Lithium spray. Hopefully it'll do the job.

Got the Brembo's fitted wink

Nice. They look really good and should no doubt be a good improvement.

I really like the 6 pots of the era but they’re a pain in the arse for seizing etc.

They're good brakes Sam; had a drive out last night after I trained with my pal (went the very long way home) and gave them a bit more of a bedding in and they bite superbly

I thought about the 135i brakes but prefer the cleaner look of the 4 pot Brembo's TBH (much, much cheaper too)!

hehe I bet that woke you up.

Forecast is -5 again tonight, I'll try putting some silicone spray on the rubbers tonight, see if that helps.

The Phoenix yellow callipers look amazing against the LE’s. A mate of mine had them but it took a lot of heartache and cash to bring them back to life because of seized pistons. He’s now got them on his Z4 coupe.

They do; but as you said; their costs are daft and trying to source them is bad enough (unless you buy new and they're c£1300 IIRC)

The 4 pot Brembos have more than enough stopping power; those Pagid Street+ pads are superb Sam too... They just seem to have a lot of feel and the brakes tell you exactly what they're doing

Turned into our cul de sac this afternoon (no sunlight) doing less than 10mph and the back end of the touring snapped on me hehe Wasn't even accelerating; just meandering as I do.. Even with decent all-seasons on, no tyre (unless studded) is a match for ice..!

Hasn't gotten over -2ºC here today; it's down to -5ºC already here and dropping fast....

Had a terrible run of luck with the Beemer recently, topped off today with an absolute twonk overtaking a line of traffic at warp speed to turn right and swiping my nose as I was creeping out of a side turn between the traffic. Needless to say they didn't stop.

Whilst I'm living in London the car will remain a 6 footer so I'm looking for DIY ideas to cover up the majority of the damage; it doesn't need to be perfect. I don't have a mechanical polisher and limited bodywork skills.

I was wondering if I could press this touch up kit into more extreme uses but interested in any other suggestions. Thanks.

Chipex Kit

Readied the touring for the wife's trip down to St Helens with her folks for a christening...

It's -3ºC here! As I was cleaning the inside, the inside glass and M Performance pedals were freezing over laugh

Speaking of bad luck, I've had 3 tyres punctured with nails/screws over the last month.

So today I decided to take that opportunity to replace the 9 year old front Sotto Zero 3's with a fresh pair of Conti WinterContact TS870Ps. Wow, what a difference! Amazing tyres. They feel just as grippy on -3 slimy tarmac as my Pilot Sports do in the warmer months smile

Took the X5 to work today, handle playing silly buggers again. Put hot water on it and it defrosted in a couple of mins. Have put lithium grease in the latch and deep in the handle so hopefully will be better next time.

Lots of nasty ice/slush at the bottom of the road, at last a chance for the Cross Climates to do their thing!

Also opportunity for 'true luxury' on the way to work.

Gave it a good wash for the first time since buying it from the original supplying dealer. Only just over 21,000 miles with the previous owner, who had it from new in 2014. 435i M Sport with the options I was after, such as sunroof and HK. Not sure I would have chosen 19 inch wheels on runflats but they suit it well enough. Considering whether to change the auto transmission fluid based on age rather than mileage before using it in Europe later this year.

ZF state 60k to 80k miles or 10 years (IIRC); so giving it a service now would be best bet

It looks well on the 403Ms; it'd be much better on non RFTs IMO; but that's a personal choice

I run x2 sets of 18s on our F31 with non RFTs (Goodyear Assym6s for summers and Goodyear Vector Gen3 all seasons for winters) and they're superb

My 125i has rewarded me for the bits I did last week by developing a nasty misfire on the way to Bicester Scramble today. It only really crops up under heavier load below 4000rpm so fortunately very easy to drive around, and above that no sign of a misfire at all… the consensus on Google seems to be that it’s a dodgy coil, so once I confirm with an OBD2 scan I’ll get one ordered and hope that sorts it. Hoping I can get away with just replacing the offending one too as it seems normally they last much much longer, although if there’s any sign of trouble with any others I’ll probably go ahead and get all 6 done.
Fixed the misfire- turns out cylinder number 5 was misbehaving so got 2 new Delphi coils ordered from Autodoc and swapped the offending coil out- a good run around the ring road and at full throttle from idle it pulls as smoothly as you’d expect. Pretty pleased with that result for a £25 coil and about an hour of work- the hardest part was getting the cowl cover seated correctly…

Feel free to play spot the difference. laugh The 2nd one I ordered as a spare- figure it’s well worth doing for the sake of £25 and if it goes on a euro trip I can swap it out in a car park easily enough.
