What lights have I got?

2002 E39 530i Sport - has Angel Eyes but what sort of bulbs are in them?

Whatever they are, they are pretty rubbish and I want to change them more Xenon-y

They seem to self-level when they come on but they definitely aren't the blue xenon look.

What's the recommended upgrade?

You have Halogen lights. Go for a Xenon upgrade. A good one will cost approx £150 but trust me, it's well worth it. Best thing I did with my 530i Sport.
