Big, big day next week when I go to BM Autosport in Sussex and have my 19 inch Veemans + new tyres all round fitted. Really hoping this will be the final nail in aesthetics - and intrigued to drive the car on matching non RF's for the first time. A 4 wheel alignment will follow within 100 miles of the new wheels and tyres.

Car is exactly where I want it to be ...

Nice car. Disapprove of the deliberately mis-spaced number plate though. nono

Since April 1st , when it went back on the road from being SORN since November, have now managed more mileage than the whole of last year. Wasn't a major thing to overcome , but enjoying being out again in the car.

Posted this car before, I think. E66 760Li LCI (2005/55), bought nearly two years ago at just shy of 260,000 miles (of which 201k were done prior to its first MoT at three years old!). Currently laid up owing to lack of need for it, and the fact that when it was last in use in 2020, the intermittent misfire on one cylinder had become a persistent one on all twelve. Now it has drained its battery and I can't even get into it to charge it. Any ideas?

My new to me 630i

After many 6cyl BMW's in the past, and after 6 months of only my trusty Touareg to fulfil my ICE needs, it's great to have something purely for fun again.

My first N52 and enjoying it immensely biggrin

Do you not have a physical key hidden in your remote key? Usually you push a button and you can remove the metal key so that you can open stuff with a dead battery.

Got some new tyres, and wheels. After 1 year making the most out of the rubbish that came with the car when I bought it.

Veeman 19 inch, Goodyear F1's. A wonderful day, and well worth the hassle.

Yep. Both barrels refusing to turn (driver's door, bootlid).

Like they are seized? Put some WD40 in them and give it 10 mins.

My Z4M has been off the road for 6 months now, recently got a ticket on it and promptly put onto the neighbours drive as we were doing our patio so had sand bags etc on our drive.

I keep thinking I should sell it, now would be a good time, fresh MOT, new brakes, spring is in the air. But I know I'll get into it and go for a blast and want to keep it. I really want a 2002 though, don't have funds to just buy one, so the sale of the Z4M would help. I'm so torn!

Anyway, gratuitous shot of better times

Oh, very nice! It’s lovely up there. We were hoping to go back this year but going to Norfolk instead. I sold my DSLR a few years ago and kicked myself for not replacing it when we were in Scotland so I’ve now bought another. Those were taken with my iPhone 8 so the quality’s not great.

They jiggle a few degrees, but remain stubbornly locked. I think it's just that the bloody car is deadlocked! Argh... I have such a love-hate relationship with this stupid thing!

Keep the Z4M, values of good ones will only go one way, as they are (like my N/A V12 barge) the last of their kind. Hydraulic steering, howling N/A six, manual gearbox... I fear the 2002 you desire could only ever be a disappointment in comparison - and then you'd look at how much the Z4M's value had increased through the Twenties and kick yourself. I know I could never, ever part from such a great car, short of giving up my license for health or age reasons - and even then, my sons would keep it, because they're as daft as I am.

I've also got an E39 540i Touring I need to get back on the road, it hasn't run in two and a half years since the cooling system failed... but at least Old Faithful, my pre-LCI 535i, remains stubbornly reliable. The one time she ever let me down in an expensive way was when the autobox failed, and even then, she was apologetic about it, going into limp mode but carrying on in third gear just long enough to get me home, finally losing drive as I parked outside the house. Consequently, I bought the 540i as a stopgap and saved up for a £2,000 repair of a £600 car. I've put 42,000 miles on the 535i n all, and I genuinely think she will outlast me. Needs a bit of TLC, but she's mechanically faultless and completely rust-free... 23 years old and feels like she could easily do the same again.

Maybe an hour of BMW's time is worth the cost then? Sure there is a smart way in they know!

So you're saying to keep the Z4M and buy a 2002 anyway, got it. I've yearned after a 2002 for longer than I can remember, and I've watched the prices go up and up. I am a person who enjoyed the qualities of older cars. My Z4M is a used car, it's on ~85k and had a few scuffs etc, but can still polish up ok!

It's not for this thread, but I am storing an old Alfa 105 which I'm allowed to use, which will give me my old car fix, but at the same time intensify the need for a 2002.

That's pretty odd, especially if you're getting exactly the same feeling from both, I wonder if it could be the wrong key. Do you only have the one? Do you know if the metal key has ever worked?

It is the correct key, it goes in just fine, and I have used it before. I did try using my 535i's key on it, and the 760's key on the 535i, and although the blanks are the same size, they will not go in at all.

Not sure about the E66, but on my E39 if the actuators for the locks are not working, the force required to turn the key is considerable - as in you feel like the key might break.
