Question: why are 7-8am commuters so much worse at moving over to let me filter than my usual 6-7am bunch? Jealous, unhelpful lot!
The early risers are just generally a better bunch of people. However, having commuted an hour or so later last week the roads seemed dead at ~7:30 - Lewisham, Loampit vale and even New X with barely any traffic - swear there is more traffic on my normal 6:15-6:30 commute!
Mentioned that I was buying some of these earlier in the thread: https://www.amazon.co.uk/MORTCH-Motorcycle-Handgua...
They arrived a couple of days after the bike was written off, and now I'm moving onto a CBR600F they won't exactly fit, so if anyone wants them for the price of postage then drop me a PM. Coupled with heated grips they look like they could be quite effective in winter for someone on a naked/adv bike.

Not too cold on my 20 miles this morning...I'm loving my heated grips. I'd also recommend RST Pro Series kit if my new jacket is anything to go by - first really cold test this morning and toasty with just a long sleeved T and polo shirt underneath.

I have that jacket and trousers. First jacket let in water, exchanged. Second one is now falling apart. Stitching on right cuff coming away and the yellow lining has become detached in the shoulders. Not desperately impressed since I only bought them in March. About to go in to the shop hopefully to be replaced as they have a three year warranty. Agree nice and warm though and I'd be interested to hear how you get on over time with yours.....

I'll have them if you think they'll fit my Tiger Sport. They arrived a couple of days after the bike was written off, and now I'm moving onto a CBR600F they won't exactly fit, so if anyone wants them for the price of postage then drop me a PM. Ok today wins on the cold front - not had temps/ice like this for a long while in central parts of London.
My bike was quite reluctant to turn over this morning and its just been a day since I last used it, but its the original 2011 battery and sits outside under a cover - the cover was fully iced over. This weak battery is one reason I've not wired up my heated gloves yet.. basically I need to get a new battery fitted first cos the gloves will just finish it off I'm sure.
I have the new battery just have to get it on the bike - I'm hoping the comparative warmth of a predicted 7 deg max over the weekend will assist this
Anyway just the hardcore few bikers and scooterists out this morning. My fingers were numb (see comment above about not using my heated gloves yet lol) from just a 7 mile trip into central london - everything else fine as my kit and multi layers seems to work.
Front end of my bike felt completely pants initially - think it just needed to generate some heat if possible in the PR4 front after the first half mile of riding

Parked in the office garage this morning and the facilities guy, who comes in on some sort of twist n go, chuckled at the extent to which I was swathed in goretex, then got hold of my grip and said "ah, that's cheating".
I just laughed and invited him to try my heated seat*
*ooerr missus etc etc

Yes!
But I've decided I get a perverse pleasure out of the fact I can leave it there & KNOW various scrotes will intermittently be eyeing it up, and they can't fking get it, s. It's like a big fk YOU to them. aholes. However it is a pisser when I just want to nip down the shop and I've already locked up. I tend to leave the trip until the next day, so it does affect the handiness of having a scooter.
In the meantime I have made a vehicle crossover application with the local council so I'm hoping that will come back affirmative so I can get things changed to park it on my property with a ground anchor, which will be a lot easier.

Does this mean that you actually can park it off the road but currently there is no formal/legal way for you to get the scooter from the road to your property? i.e. once approved they install a dropped curb?Parking on private property rather than public road is infinitely better full stop even if the bike/scooter is still outside.

yeah it's to install a dropped kerb. At the moment I have to park in a side-street away from the house as I'm on a main road. There's a busstop nearby so I can't really wheel it onto my property informally due to constraints, I would like to have the proper dropped kerb to be able to do so.Parking on private property rather than public road is infinitely better full stop even if the bike/scooter is still outside.

Coldest I've ever been this morning, even with heated grips, keiss heated fleece and thermals it was bitterly cold. And yes, that is ice all over the bike.
You win, it was only -2 at 8am in Zone 2 East London this morning, that was cold enough!Assuming your bike lives outside or in a garage that is damp? Do you not cover it? Even though my bike lives outside my cover takes the hit with ice and then you remove it in one go with the cover.

-5 out in South Bucks. I thought I should swap to heated gloves, so installed the wiring inside my jacket, got on the bike, plugged in, connected the gloves, only to find them not working. Without any heat, the gloves themselves (keis) offer the thermal qualities of a spiders web, so by the time I got to my desk, my body had lost any association I ever had with the fingers on each hand.Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
