Thanks guys, TBH, I've been called so much worse .... and as for a pissing contest, I am very aware how little they are worth and that some peoples watches are more valuable than my total net worth. Its not a money pissing contest, it not even a noise pissing contest, its a nothing pissing contest
I think it is to do with the Brand, you get 3 loud thunderous Japanese bikes go past, "fast and furious", everyone rolls their eyes, I, "tick", past a car and the young children (boys obviously) are glued to the window, many comments on what a lovely bike, (I can't hear st because I have music playing in my ears).

I spent a great deal of time customising the bike .....

I even matched my helmet to the same black as the bike .....

We spent a week trying to get the subtly of the badging correct .....

What I'm trying to say is, the sound of the engine/exhaust goes hand in hand with the type of bike and I believe that people have far more patience with the HOG making a noise than a buzzing 125 flat out everywhere it goes.

You call me names such a self centred prick ..... in the old days I used to get up tight and respond, many many years of forum writing later and I laugh at it and, no longer is it a personal insult, comments now runs off my back and I laugh....and, believe you me, I know some people that make what I have, look like a Matchbox collection, one guy I know flies his helicopter to go see his car collection and takes his personal detailer with him ...... its certainly not about that ..... its about using what you have.

I've gone sideways on the Icelakes of Norway ...

I put my parents on the Glacier Express Tour and raced the Train from St Moritz to Zermatt ...

This photo is taken in Switzerland, but the background is are the Italian Alps ....

Don't even start talking about the times I took the car skiing (after converting the car{s} to carry skis on a Towbar)

Now its the Bikes turn ...... I'd like to take the old girl through the Swiss Alps, I did read about the Austrian Tyrol on another thread, so I am aware of the noise issue.

So its not a pissing contest about who got the biggest, most expensive, "whatever', its about actually using the machinery we own to go out and actually create memories ... I just happen to have a bit of a loud one that the forum here, does seem more split than I initially considered they would be .....

I still blame the red Squirrels for driving too fast ......
I take it back as I probably wouldn't say that to you in a normal conversation so shouldn't say it on here, unless you really we're a prick which I doubt.

I was more referring to your posts which are very 'look at what I've got'.

Looks like you've done a fair bit more than most on here with cars and bikes, obviously including me.

This.

Think the age demographic on here has a lot to do with it.

Many have done it in the past but are now condemning those that do it now.

When I was younger I thought everyone thought my music was cool blasting out my car and my 4 cylinder st heap with a big end can sounded the nuts. The reality was far removed..

A bit more sound than a muted standard bike is great ....any bike without the baffles in the exhaust is just silly....sending you deaf whilst alerting the camera van/Police you are on the way from a mile out.
This. There's a lot of area between obnoxiously loud penis extension and whisper quiet standard bike. I'll be honest, one of my BSAs tends toward the former, but those exhausts are actually quieter than the shortys it came with.

I'm concerned about people with a grudge against bikes use loud exhausts as an excuse to ban or curtail them.

It’s not a pissing contest, but here’s a load of photos explaining how amazing my bike is also showing how amazing I think I am and why I’m better than you.

I rarely see these levels of hysteria on car threads, bikers used to be more united

Pretty much my outlook on it really. I live just off a wide open, straight road, probably 3/4's mile or so long that heads out towards the countryside. During sunny days in particular, if I'm out in the garden I hear all sorts of different cars and bikes tearing up and down; V8s, screaming bikes, Harleys etc...and to be perfectly honest I don't really give a st. I don't find it "offensive" or particularly annoying in all honesty, maybe I just don't subscribe to the modern way of being uptight about everything and everyone?? Maybe it's being involved in drag racing for so many years and having experienced what "properly loud" is, but I've never once heard an exhaust noise outside and found it irritating.

I don't make a habit of going stupid through built up areas on my bike, I tend to stick to urban limits on the whole, but I quite enjoy the din of my Yoshi RS-3 with the baffle out on the open roads smile Although as aftermarket exhausts go, I don't really think it's at the louder end of the scale anyway.

I don't, why are people in towns more important to you than those who live near open roads ?

Fortunately for those of us who like louder exhausts, you're a nobody and no ones cares what you think.

Seriously I do see your point, I live in the countryside on an NSL - I find it intriguing that I have to slow to 30 in villages, 20 in towns "think of the children"

Yet it's fine to drive / ride past my house / children at 60 - it either is, or isn't ok to ride past houses at 60 (or with a loud exhaust)

Generally it boils down to I want you to treat me with respect but as you're in the minority - fk you

Country lives matter

You've never heard it.

Plus, why is your opinion of what's acceptable to listen to, or what constitutes "too loud" more important than someone enjoying their free time? You could go round in circles endlessly on that one.

As per my original post on the thread. How fking childish.

Are you this belligerent in real life and throw around unthoughtful so called sneers ?

It is seen largely on this thread and similar that the noise of tinkered or modified bikes is not welcomed by the mass of population- for miles in each direction around them.
Some people who have bikes, and on PH this thread, would seem to appreciate this and are thoughtful.
Others - and indicated by your response are less accepted by society and have no respect for others and don’t be surprised when they think ‘tt on a bike’ not when the masses push for a ban.

How do you know ?

You seem to be able to recognise the problem in "built up areas" but give fa care to those outside of those......well done.

No respect for others?? Oh give it a rest. I honestly don't know how some people manage to get through daily life being constantly annoyed and offended by everything all the time rolleyes . So to clarify then, a loud exhaust on a motorcycle, means the owner has "no respect for others"? What, at all? So Dave from down the road sticks a Racefit Mega on his Fireblade, and then once that's complete goes on a spree of murders? Robbing old ladies? Smashing next door's wing mirrors off their car 'cause Dave has no respect for others? What a load of melodramatic st laugh

I don't know, maybe to some of us there are more pressing priorities or issues to occupy us than a bit of exhaust noise here and there.

But I was talking specifically about my bike whilst I'm on it. So you're now saying you don't like the sound of something you've never actually heard in real life? Ok.

Where is the ASBO Man when we need him?

And no, I have never had anything other than a standard exhaust on any of my cars.

Those other issues might be more pressing to you, but I quite like them and think you’re a whiny snowflake for wanting to resolve them.

Which would be absolutely fine, because I'm not really fussed about the opinion of some random NIMBY on the internet anyway.
