Got a Gen 3 and the high pressure power steering line between the pump and fan is leaking at the quick connect fitting at the pump end. I’ve checked Mr Google and can see it’s a fairly common problem.

I’ve taken the line off and its in good condition so I have a few options, not sure which is best so I thought I’d post on here in case someone else has been down the same road.

I’ve tried all of the local hydraulic hose specialists such as Hydraquip, Pirtek and James Lister, they all say that the ends are special fittings and they can’t make anything aftermarket such as Aeroquip etc. Also, I’ve called the local Fiat/Chrysler dealer and the quick fit connections are available at around £80 each but they reckon the part number for the line has been superseded plus the line is no longer available.

From what I can see my options are….

Try to cut off the existing quick connect fittings without damaging the pipe and purchase some new ones. Problem seems to be that some folk and US vendors have reported the new units failing because of either their age or just being faulty items.

JTSVP do some aftermarket lines, but I’m hearing that they might be smaller bore pipe which is altering the feel of the steering and hindering fast left to right steering movements.

RSI Racing solutions also do aftermarket lines, but I’ve seen no feedback on their product.

I’ve had a look on Rock Auto, they do aftermarket components but don’t stock the quick fit connector to the pump, the aftermarket connector is a Dorman 800-722 but no one seems to stock it. (note: the fittings on each end are different part no’s)

Hopefully one of you guys has already been through this and can advise, otherwise it looks like chancing the RSI lines.

Quick update on the Gen 3 power steering lines that were leaking at the quick connect fittings. I ended up replacing them with the JTSVP lines in a carbon finish, they were a relatively straight forward fit and the steering feel is no different to the original units. The couplings at the ends looked as though they might be slightly more restrictive, that said the fast left to right steering movements are fine. I'm happy with them.
