A couple of questions if anyone can help

When I touch the brake pedal I get a single "clank" from somwhere underneath the car. It doesn't happen all the time but on any particular journey, once it starts it does it every time I touch the brake pedal and no it isn't the pedal box. Any ideas?

Looking at the rear discs the other day I noticed that the outer third of the disc is brighter and more polished than the inner two thirds which is darker but still smooth, is this normal?

The car is only 18 months old but lives outdoors and is driven nearly every day (15K miles)....John.

Loose pads maybe? Still got the pad retaining springs on the front calipers?

Assuming none of the calipers are hanging off, it could be a simple thing like one of the pads has some play between itself and the caliper, no big deal. If that is the case it will always come from the same wheel and it should happen when you brake both going backwards and forwards. When dust collects around the pad the noise goes, when the dust goes the noise comes back.

I would not worry too much about the rear discs they do not have to work as hard as the front and this can happen. If it bothers you take the pads out clean everything with brake clean and then reassemble using copaslip on the back of the pads - job done.

Have you checked the pads ?? "Spirited" driving can go through them at an alarming rate
