Hi all,
Anyone know where the engine number is on a 95 serpentine 4.0 Chimaera engine? Ive looked by the second spark plug on the near side and can see nothing.
The problem is that the chap purchasing my car has run an HPI check which indicates that the engine size is 3052cc! and not 3952cc,which is what the log book says. Failing that is there any other way of proving that the engine is a TVR 4.0?

That's an obvious, and understandable, typo. I assume there was some finger trouble typing in the engine size. There is no reason to doubt yours is a 4.0, there have been relatively few different engine sizes used in the Chimaera and 4.0 (3952cc) is the smallest. In order to get hold of 3.0 (3052cc) Chimaera, you would have to start with a standard one and get the engine bored/stroked down by exactly 900cc. It is hard to imagine somebody going to such great trouble and expense to reduce the power output, and it would be immediately obvious when you came to drive it that you were 25% down on power! I don't imagine that anyone would seriously believe yours is actually a 3.0 Chimaera!
I had this frightener when looking to buy my Chimaera.
Scared the seller a bit when I pointed out to him that the engine number (as stamped on the block between the middle 2 sparkers) did not tie in with the engine number on the VIN plate - phoned TVR a found out that this number is Land Rovers original engine number (thought that I recognised it as being similar to my Range Rover's) - TVR stamp a 2nd number on the engine when the Power boys work their magic on it.
