How can you check if the Lambda sensor is working correctly, and where on the engine does this live is it in the exhaust system, and how much does a new one cost. brian d

Easy, you take the car to a professional who knows how to locate and diagnose faults in the injection system (and of course knows where the various sensors are). It isn't a job for the average home mechanic. Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

If a Lambda sensor fails, it usually causes a misfire and stuttering underload. A simple way of checking is to remove the spark-plugs and inspect them for heavy carbon build ups. A lambda sensor measures oxygen in the exhaust gases and the engine ECU calculates the readings and adjusts fuel accordingly. If a sensor has failed the engine will over fuel hence the heavy carbon build ups on the plugs. The lamda sensors are fitted on each manifold near where the manifolds connect to the centre Y peice. The plugs for the sensors are tie-wrapped to the chassis under each manifold. Even if you are confident that you have a Lamda problem, I advise an engineer is better doing the job as he will be able to check other problems that can cause similar symptoms and also you need a special socket for changing the sensors. Dont run the engine with a misfire as this can damage the catalytic converters, a Chimera has 3 and they arn`t cheap !!!

Thanks to everyone for the info,m I was not going to try and do any repairs myself, I am am engineer and like to know where and how things work. I am in Aberdeen and there are not many (or any)garages who are able to work on TVR engines. I was using a Porche/Merc/Landrover dealer but they also prove to be inable to carry out any fault finding on TVR's as last year I had a little niggley problem with the smooth running of the engine and they told me to fit a new ECU, I bought it they fitted it and the problem still existed.
