As I'm sure you know, 'Sport' doesn't make it go any faster; it's just an appearance thing. If you want toys, go for the SE. The 4.0 is not massively faster than the 3.0: but then for hooning I get the TVR out

Mine's a 2001 'X' reg in Pacific blue with ivory leather, satnav, voice activation, auto lights, auto wipers and gorgeous 18" BBS Monaco split rim alloys that look so good it's actually worth sacrificing the ride!! Oh yep, and all for £8,370

I think it might be time to head for your nearest dealer and get a test drive.....

I get my TVR out when I want a hoon too...lol.

Where on earth did you get that for that money?? What mileage?

The Sport versions do have a different suspension set-up though and a couple of other driving aids I think..

Alexkp, Welcome to the Jaguar fold. One more of us, one less of them. Whatever you decide on, enjoy!

Had a 2.5SE X type, then replaced it with a 2.5SE S type a couple of months back, costing me the equivelant of UK£64,000 (here in Cyprus) !!! but worth every penny.

Have had 7 Jags, including a silky Daimler Double Six but none of the match the ride and silence of the S Type; it is astonishing.

I'm going to visit a dealer today, and have a couple of test drives - I'll let you know how I get on.

Save yourself a few grand and get this - all of the performance, with enough change for the bills. If you're not doing many miles it will go on for ever!

Just been and sat in both an X-Type and an S-Type (which I drove).

I think it has to be an S-Type - just felt more Jag-like. Although the X was very nice...

i've driven the x-type 2.5SE, and to be honest i wasn't that impressed, i'm sure the 3.0L engine would make a huge difference to the car performance and going for the sport setup would be better. however if it was to be my money i'd go for the S-type. its so much better in the build quality department and it makes you special straight away. i've aleady consigned my self to sorting out cash for a S-type R as my next car (used).
if you do pick the stype make sure its the Sport varient not SE! it looks soo nice with the bigger alloys and colour coded bits.

I've driven them all, they're all great, but given the initial suggested choice I would go for the S type V8. It's a really LOVELY engine- revvy but with lots of torque and a lovely noise.

But then, not suprisingly I'm an engine man.....

101K - and it's almost like new

I can tell you though that 18" alloys certainly remove any magic carpet ride - but they look so gorgeous I can live with it

Thanks for the advice.

I just bought an S-Type 3.0 SE in Pacific Metallic Blue, Ivory White Leather, SatNav, Electric roof, Wood Kit, Comms system etc, Traction control and sport modes.

29k miles and full JSH.

So far so good - and it really is a lovely thing. SO much more sense of occasion when you get in and drive than a BMW or Audi, and the total opposite to my TVR Chimera450 which remains as my

Cheers - see you around.

Going down the replacment car route, My LPG powered Grand Cherokee has served me well but I was most impressed by the diesel SE S-type. If I have dropped a clanger in the choice, then I will let you know.
