First of all, apologies if I have posted this in the wrong section, I had a bit of a hunt and couldn't see any obvious place to post this question.

I am in the process of planning a project car, I want to put together a smallish estate that will last me a good few years, give decent reliability and be reasonably easily serviced with my fairly basic mechanical skills. I need it to have a bit of grunt but nothing too crazy and I want to have it converted to run on LPG. I have owned a couple of Focuses over the years, I like the way they drive and look, and they're easy to work on for the most part.

So my question is this: I know that Volvo offered the V50/S60 with their 2.4 (non turbo) engine, and I know that the V50/S60 and MK2 Focus share much of their underpinnings. How much of a crazy job would it be to put the 2.4 Volvo engine into a MK2 Focus? I am suggesting this engine as a possible replacement for the Focus 2.0 petrol which I have been told is not suitable for LPG conversion (non hardened valve seats).

If it's doable, how much would need to be replaced? Would I need to swap full electrics etc from the donor Volvo? Would the 2.4 engine swap into the Focus engine bay/engine mounts easily or would it require major fabrication to get it in place?

I know I could just convert a 2.4 V50 to LPG (or look out for one that has already been converted), but I like the Focus more, it's more understated, it handles better and I know I can pick up a decent shell for very little. Any thoughts much appreciated.
