It's been a while since i posted/commented on this forum. However, seeming though it is such a vast source of valuable information, from which i have benefited greatly in the past, i felt compelled to share my recent issue( not that i have had many!!).

My drivers side wing mirror recently started drooping, so gave it a few rotations to see if it would re-tighten to no avail. Turn out it was the almost non accessible grub screw that located into the mirror pivot had worked its way loose. So the mirror now has a complete droop on!!!

I located the grub screw behind the black plastic collar but no way could i get a cut down/trimmed allen key into it to get it tight again. Neither could i remove the mirror from the car with ease to fix it. Hence the following in-situ repair which so far works a treat.

I managed to pull back the plastic collar to locate an area on the collapsible column that had "a bit of meat'' to it, drilled a hole through it and made a new grub screw from a cut down bolt, then put the plastic collar back into place to hide the modification. So the OE grub screw is still holding the mirror to the car and my modification stops the mirror from rotating and drooping. However it is essential that you hold the mirror in the correct viewing position before hand.

So far so good after a few drives out............

Snap, this was my solution, it held firmly for more than ten years until I opted for the 'Brian mirror mount upgrade' mentioned above

I've opted for the Brian fix too. However I'm struggling to get the grub screw sufficiently tight. Have you drilled a dimple in the post to accept the screw?
