'Eco freindly' brands..

Hi,
I am currently a Transport design student at the University of Huddersfield.
With a current project, I could do with finding out what you think about the economic impact of 4x4 vehicles.
Could you tell me what you think of the following brands in terms of how 'green' or eco friendly they are:
Land Rover
BMW
Jeep
Mercedes
Lexus
Honda
Ford
Audi
(to name but a few..)
I would really appriciate it if you could reply to me, and tell me what you think!

You're going to have to be more specific with your 4x4 lable.
An Audi TT is 4x4, but is it the type of vehicle you had in mind?
As an aside, a Land Rover could very easily be considered an 'Eco friendly ' vehicle due to the car's longevity. It costs the Earth a similar amount in raw materials and manufacturing energy to make a Discovery as it does to make a 5 Series BMW (or dare I mention it - a Prius!) yet the lifespan of the Discovery will be at least twice that of a regular (white goods) type of car. It's recycling/reusing in it's most natural sense.
Unfortunately, most people/tabloids/politicians etc can't see past the fuel consumption of a Discovery and use that as a benchmark to lambast it, whereas the amount of fuel used to propel the Discovery pales into insignificance when compared with it's manufacture and disposal.
The 'Dust to Dust' figure is the important one. Google that.
