Ongoing nonsense with my iphone SE.2020. I'm now on my 2nd, the first having been replaced under warranty at 10 months old when it bricked a couple of days after the 14.4 update in April. Immediately after that update, the phone stopped seeing my Apple battery case, and lost charge way faster than prior to the update. Double whammy.

5 weeks in to new SE and new battery case, and it's stopped seeing the case again. This morning I tested both cases on another phone, and they both still work. An hour at the Apple shop with a genius resulted in a 14.6 update. After which, my phone still can't see the cases, and I'm assured it's not the phone, it's the cases. Obviously bks, but that doesn't help me.

My first experience with iphones, and once the contract is up with Vodafone, my last. How people put up with this is a mystery to me.
Had iPhones for 13 years, since the days of the 3GS.

Never had an issue, but then I never use battery cases. How difficult is it to carry a charger with you? Or have one charger in the office and one at the workplace. Or one of those portable batteries?
I know the battery case is official but I don't like the idea of them as it surely makes the phone hot.
Same, 13 years never had an issue. It works, it connects with eveything seemlessly.

I have a work Android phone and I have come to the conclusion people have given up on life if they voluntarily choose to have one.

Hi All.

New role at work, new Toys.

A New MBP (M1 Chipset) has been delivered with a pair of Dell 24" monitors, and a Startech thunderbolt Three docking station.
https://www.startech.com/en-gb/cards-adapters/tb3d... (which TBH I am amazed at the cost of yikes )

And a handful of wires......
Seems that this is not a workable solution 'because M1 chipset' : https://www.startech.com/en-gb/faq/one-external-di...

Any thoughts or comments while I wait for the IT Dept to kick in to life?
how to get the big screens hooked up and working ?

Maybe they meant to buy the one that does support dual monitors from the M1 Mini...
https://www.startech.com/en-us/cards-adapters/dk30...

Otherwise simply plug one of them in via HDMI 2.0 port.

Well, the firm have shipped out a Dell Displaylink hub instead with a 'Displaylink' App - and we have lift off:

My Mac on the left (lowly spec 21" iirc), and the MBP and twinDell P2419H's front and right.

My Mac knocks spots off the these for the clarity- and I can not increase the resolution to more than 1920 x 1080.
So this has ultimately left me a little underwhelmed,..

Ideas?

You can't increase the resolution because the P2419H are 1920x1080p monitors.

If you want 4k (3840 x 2160), then you're going to need 4k monitors - and they tend to start off at about 27".

You could get a 49” monitor.
This has a 5120x1440 resolution on my MBP (the laptop won’t drive it to that). It does PiP too so you can run two computers side by side.

I don’t see an issue with that. I have never seen the need for the three / four monitor setup people seem to go for that looks like they are managing a nuclear plant or something

haha

I think it's the 'keys' mentality. In the same way the night watchmen jangles his 50 keys feeling all important, the trader in on his desk likes to see his 10 screens flashing green and red.
I agree single screen is better.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the row of number keys on the keyboard of the 12.9 ipad?

When apple added that row of keys it made all the keys smaller.

I'd like to shrink every door apple employees even walk through by half so they know how much those with poor eyesight enjoyed that change.

Inconsiderate fkwits.
Maybe, just maybe some people use a large iPad because they have poor eyesight, so shrinking the keys might not always be a great idea.

Third party keyboards are not helpful.

My son’s iPad appears to be knackered.

It won’t boot up, just flashes the Apple logo. I’ve tried plugging it in to iTunes to update and it fails (unknown error 4013). It then gives the option to restore but fails and gives the same error message.

It is connecting okay - iTunes shows the right serial number.

Any ideas on what else I can try or is it a trip to an Apple store to get them to work their magic?

After you get used to several screens (or one mahoooosive one) working on a tiny screen feels like working through a letter box. Big spreadsheets become easier, drag and drop between programs a snip, monitoring lots of markets a doddle.
And multiple screens don’t look as cool as a single one.

I have multiple monitors for multiple redundancy.

I assume "when time is money" any time you can't be using your single 100" screen split into 6 to analyse the markets, is costing you money. Hence the 4-6 screens you see.

I'm only on 3-4 - but there are a couple of lower res spares in the attic.

In the real world though 99.9% of people have no need for big spreadsheets, probably drag and drop like that once a month and dont sit monitoring markets.

It will be interesting to see to be honest.
Never bothered with multiscreens before

So what goes on here - I only get "little icons" these days in the dock for my open-in-the-background stuff (Big Sur 11.4)

Strange, mine just get greyed out but stay the same size.
