So it sounds like an Ambilight tv is a good option the!
I’ve also been thinking about the Sync box and how it connects/works, I assume it can only process the signs all that passes through it, a games console for example.
So on that basis, if you’re watching normal tv or YouTube via an inbuilt app on the tv, it won’t work with the sync box?
Correct. I need to run YouTube etc through the sky box rather than the tv’s app.

Yes that is the only bugbear with the sync box but now I rarely use my TV's native adds as all I need comes through my EE Pro Box. I can't stand watching other peoples TV without ambilight!

Anyhow Hue now has this covered with their App but only on newer model Samsung Q series TV's sadly mine is Q series but one year two old banghead

Anyone else use the wakeup function and if you do is it working?

Even though I experimented about 3 years back with one of the White Ambience bulbs I only actually set up and started to properly use the function about 4 or 5 months back. Still not sure if it works for me, except the last two days it has not triggered. It is still set up in the app.

Update - and this morning it worked once more. Yesterday I did look at each instance I had defined and clicked on Save, so don't know if that reset it in the system or if it was something else.

I had exactly the same issue this week with a routine I have configured to turn on my porch lighting at sunset every day. It's worked for years without issue then out of the blue stopped triggering.

Got the same here but the other way round - have routines that turn on the porch, garage external, and house external lights at dusk.
All worked without issue for ages, only the house external and porch routines have just stopped turning off, garage external still turns off as required.

Guess we'll have to resave or rebuild those flakey routines. Annoying when things just stop playing after running fine for months.

After several years of almost faultness performance my whole set became unusable at the weekend. All started after I changed the battery on a Hue button and it would not restart. Coincidence? not sure.

I am having real issues trying to get everything set up. I've got three hubs, lights, motion sensors and about 18 wall switches to do. Every device has had to be reset etc.

One really odd thing is I cannot allocate a motion sensor to a room as the room does not appear in the room list yet I can see and control the room in the home page. I think I will delete and re add.

Using the Hue app can I set a switch to turn some lights on for a set duration? i.e. the switch performs the same way as a motion sensor.

I have fitted a load of outside lights and this is how I want them to behave.

For anyone interested the cheapest way to get multiple bulbs semms to be to buy a starter kit with 3 bulbs, a dimmer switch and a bridge for £101 from the Hue site, only problem is you end up with an excess of bridges (I have two already in use and can't imagine filling them)

Do you mean plugging some lights into a hue plug socket then setting those onto certain timings? Because yes you can. I have some cheapo string lights in the conservatory plugged into a hue plug that comes on at sunset.

Although reading back I don’t think that’s what you mean.

What you mean might require this I think?

I read it as press a button and the light stays on for x minutes then switches off automatically.

I don't know how to do that.

That was indeed what I meant.

The youtube video points me towards automations which seems to have some promise, I will try after work

Another option would be too use the switch I linked above paired with an outdoor motion detector? Effectively using that detector to switch that switch on.....and presumably off after a certain amount of time?

But yes, the automations in the app must be able to do this as well.

(I assume your outdoor lights aren't Hue? If they are then they can just be paired with an outdoor motion sensor....)

The outdoor lights are Hue and I have a couple of outdoor motion sensor on the way (BTW I have been using an indoor motion sensor outdoors for some years now and it has been and is perfect)

The Hue switch is another way to turn on the lights from inside the house just in case I ever fancy it, I bought a job lot of Hue switches some years back when they were in a sale to am always looking for excuses to use them.

Ah ok so you can do the whole motion sensor thing, but you still want a switch with the timer on it as well? Got it.

Exactly. Admittedly the switch is less important when the outdoor sensors arrive.

I couldn't find a way of doing this in the official hue app as the switch setup is a bit limited.

I use a 3rd party app called Hue Essentials to program my accessories and it's dead easy to achieve what you want.
This is the setup for my garden lights.

As you can see the Hue Essentials app also lets you program the buttons as you wish rather than just choosing a room or zone and the buttons function being fixed.

Interesting! Can you have both apps doing things? I'd like that essentials app to do maybe one or two specific things, but happy with the rest of my setting on the usual Hue app....

Good, I already have Hue essentials.

The automations are stored on the Hub rather than dependent on the app so I believe it is possible to use the Hue app and Essentials without it being a problem

Yes absolutely you can. That's exactly what I do.

I only really use HE to program my acessories and then use the Hue app on the odd occasion I control them with an app, although mostly it's automations, sensors and switches .
