I honestly thought as this is "their own" phone we would have seen prices in the $450 for the Pixel and $650 for the XL - that fact it's an additional $200 on top of that for both is a big surprise. Will be following closely to see how this sells...

Quite happy with the Nexus 5X I paid £170 for a couple of months ago which already has an excellent camera. Whilst the Pixel looks nice I can't see it being worth 3x the price?

At this price point, I will be sticking with my Nexus 6P.

£819 for the closest equivalent to my 64GB Nexus 6P and yet no OIS, no stereo speakers, huge bezel, etc. Swing and a miss for me!

Disappointed at the price, was hoping to replace my Xperia Z2.

Got a 6P and the pricing makes sense. Apple shows that some people desperately want to pay more.
We worked with a phone company for years and you'd be surprised about the number of people that believe more expensive = better.

That way, pricing could actually put them on the radar of these people.

You mean, with the big black screen in the front?

Question is, have Apple cornered the market of high paying customers? How many of them know the Pixel exists, and will they look for it when they buy their next phone?

As you say, it could put the phone onto these 'premium customers' radar, but it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Well, at least one in the thread so far.

I was all ready to pre-order before I saw the price. For that money I think I'd prefer to switch to Apple and get an SE.

Why does Google always insist on getting their phones 90% right. Be it a shoddy camera, limited memory, no SD card slot and now cost, there is always something that stops them being an iPhone/Apple killer.

Rather than win over Apple customers because this a premium product in the same ballpark I think the above reaction is a lot more likely.

2 pages and not a single person seems tempted says it all. I'm a massive Google fan but I'll get my Android fix elsewhere this time round smile

Yup. I've had Anrdoid devices for a decade and had the original Nexus One (what an amazing phone). But the lack of an Android phone with good specs at a sensible size and price is making me really consider the SE.

I assume you have, but I thought I'd ask anyway, have you considered a OnePlus 3? Unless you're desperate for a 1440p display, they're pretty much the epitome of high end specs and build at a reasonable price.

If you don't like the idea of buying from OnePlus directly, O2 are selling unlocked, unbranded OnePlus 3s on PAYG and contract as of last week.

Exactly the same for me! I don't want a huge phone, so things like the 6p are out for me, so now thinking of a Nexus 5x or Moto X Play. I would consider a One plus X, but would like some customer support if things go wrong.
Yep, 6P too big for me too.

I suppose if other brands such as One Plus and Moto are hoovering up the lower end of the market Google might prefer to let them get on with it. Brave decision perhaps.

I hadn't, but I'm really reluctant to go bigger than a 5" screen (or at least a phone with those sort of dimensions). The Sony Z3C is actually a touch too big for my liking as it is with a 4.6" screen. The Pixel piqued my interest because it's actually slightly smaller than my Z3C but with a bigger screen.

Ahh right, the OP3 has a 5.5" display so it's definitely too big. If you do ever want a bigger phone though, I highly recommend them! yes

I'm not really sure of any modern Android devices with 5" or smaller displays, but with high end specs. The iPhone SE may well be your best bet, if you don't mind using iOS. My sister has an iPhone 5S (the same body as the SE) and it's certainly a solid, well built little thing.

Just noticed the iPhone7 I'd have is at the same price... but has a trade in programme supposedly offering up to £375 off. In a couple of years the Pixel will be worthless, but if an old iPhone (more likely to still be getting updates too) has a simple trade in programme it might be the better route.

I've never even considered an iPhone before. frown

Everyone that buys a pixel phone gets unlimited googledrive storage for life. So sd slot not really needed

At £399 I might have gone for it but £599 is bonkers. Back to the drawing board for a replacement for me frown
Get a 6P?
Would love one but 128gb 6P has been unavailable for a while. Don't want to 64gb, not enough frown
