what it means is the product is supplied without driver CD's, packaging, manuals... essentially all you get is the product itself.

for example if you pick up an OEM DVD drive you will get a DVDrom but are unlikely to get WinDVD/PowerDVD bundled with it (thats a bad example I grant as you usually do ) and certainly won't get a cardboard box/manual.

System builders like myself buy OEM equipment, because we buy in bulk and are not interested in the pretty retail boxes. We, for example, just want a plain box with say 10 mice in it and no instructions, cos we don't need those.

Likewise, as with the DVD example above, we have all the cables and screws from other sources so just want the bare drives for putting in our machines. Fancy packaging is pointless because no one will see it, so a plain brown box is the norm for OEM items.
