As per title, recently moved from BT to Vodafone for my broadband, both high 20mb, but am finding that imgur (heavily used by reddit) is massively slower then before, to the point where I turn off my wifo and use normal H/4G to makes it vaguely usable. Instantly solves it doing this.

Never had this with BT, and the fact that turning off wifi instantly solves it has me confused.

It's the only site I have found that is effected this way. Any ideas why? A way around it?

Thanks

Hello,
I moved to Vodafone home BB last week and had the same problem.
Using Google DNS settings (8.8.8.8) seems to have cured it...

Thanks mate, how did you change the dns? Within router settings is it?

Also, any explanation why Vodafone have this 'issue' but I never did with bt?

I had the same changing dns sorted it. Think it’s skmething to do with their content filtering.

Its because they filter, and you cannot stop the filtering. Every single http/s request you make goes through vodafone servers.

Personally, I used 9.9.9.9 as they are globally distributed, rather than the Google DNS servers which are fixed in the US, so some cloud services will direct you to their US edges.

Good tip to use 9.9.9.9

OP - you are correct, you change it on the router itself.
Will need to use 009.009.009.009 (or 008...depending on which you chose)

Randle - you can turn the content control off entirely in your My Vodafone account. Does that stop the filtering by Voda?

Thanks

Thanks guys. Will try it later.

Content filtering is turned off for the me, still imgur seems to slowed/blocked.

Does worry me as to what else they might be limiting, especially as I got them to confirm zero traffic management? Surely this is a form of traffic management....

They also make it unusually difficult to use VPN software and block most VPN service's websites... or so I've been told.

Nothing that can't be worked around but I don't know why they bother??

The user visible bits of content filtering do NOT get around the fact that they proxy all traffic, through their DNS servers. Being absolutely honest, and given the execrable capability of most users, its not the worst idea in the world - it will stop traffic to and from known Bad Actors out there, they just have it ratcheted up a little high, thus you aren't seeing Imgur, as whatever they use doesn't like the site.

The Quad9 service will prevent access to botnets etc, just seems a little more relaxed about the content on Imgur smile

And yes, this is traffic shaping just really light touch, and a bit of a PR blunder as Vodafone front line are not aware of it. I suspect it would also impact use of some Cloud Services.
