Following on from the 5 thread here https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I've just ordered a 6 Solar which should arrive tomorrow. Therefore going to be selling my 5.

Anyone else made the jump?

Yes! Although I went from a Fenix 3 to a 6x Pro Solar, so possibly a greater jump.

It's awesome.

I've worn my 5x everyday since I got it, great watch, but finding it difficult to see why I should upgrade.

I'll wait and see if my 5x goes wrong and then maybe replace it.

I have been exactly the same with my 5. Got it December 17 and worn it daily. Hadn't even looked at the 6 until a friend told me he'd got a 6X Solar. The solar bit was the key for me. It spiraled from there. I know its a bit gimmicky, but it's so damn cool. My 5 doesn't have maps either so that's another good reason to upgrade...

I’ve gone from the 5X to the 6X sapphire. It was on sale with a 20% discount, so I decided it treat myself. If the solar version had been on sale too, I would have gone for that, but it wasn‘t so the price difference was too great to me for what is a gimmick that I‘m unlikely to ever need, as the longest I‘m ever going be tracking an activity is 6-7 hours.

As I wrote in the Fenix 5 thread, reasons for upgrading for me were:
Larger screen for a the same size watch that is actually a bit flatter on the wrist
The new widget view
More data fields and graphs on an activity
Plus:
Music and audio alerts
Garmin pay
Heat and climate acclimatisation
Ski resort maps
Training load improvements
Body battery
Better race predictor

I‘ve also noticed that it‘s more accurate at recording the number of lengths in a pool. My swim training involves a lot of half length hard, half length very easy. That used to confuse the Fenix 5 more often than not. It‘s still not perfect, but I‘m having to manually edit my swim sessions far less now.

I guess it will also get new features rolled out, which the older models won‘t too.

I was ideally holding out for a Descent II that adds diving to the Fenix 6 features, but that doesn‘t seem to be on the horizon.

Sapphire is more meaningful for me. I tend to wear Mine outdoors and bang it quite a lot it doesn’t have a mark on it. Plus it’s usually shot weather and the watch is covered by a coat etc.

I think I’ve made a mistake though. I’ve got hundreds of awesome 22mm straps and no 26mm ones

Hmmm

Oh well.

I've been wanting to make the jump to the 6 for ages. I've got the 3 and its been superb. I've not had a single issue in 3 years and my concern is that the 6 will be less reliable.

You won't regret the upgrade. It's huge.

My solar arrived today. Impressed so far.

Not sure how it compares to the 3, but versus the 5X apparently the GPS plotting isn’t as accurate, due to a new chipset. I haven’t used it outside enough yet to see if I’ve noticed. It takes noticeably longer to reconnect to my phone after being disconnected eg if I’ve been swimming and left my phone in the locker, but on the flip side, so far I’ve had to do far fewer reboots of watch and/or phone to make it reconnect. Live track is also consistently working again.

It's rude to barter, I'm English, I prefer to feel like I've been given a huge discount rather than ask for one. laugh
