Seconded on the updates. Is it a fling or relationship?

Apple has a lot of content they can draw on with their Apple TV+ programmes, if they bring immersive content to Vision Pro it would make it more appealing.

I'd heard they plan to have a travel channel with immersive content from locations around the world, that would also be a good draw.

I'm holding off for the SE cheaper version, as I mainly use the Quest 3 for entertainment.

For business, the Vision Pro is an easy choice as you can have the virtual equivalent of high quality screens with you for your MacBook. If I was travelling a lot and had a need I could justify one of the first generation Vision Pros.

Got mine today. It does some incredible things.
Such as?
I've had day's use so I can articulate it more than simply being amazed by the demo at the Apple store.

We have four so I've been sitting with virtual avatars on FaceTime with my business partners, who are augmented on top of the real world (well, the rendering of it I see). The avatar can be set so they are spatial, which creates 3D version of the person you're face timing and places them in your space.

The blending of the real world (which even allows me to type this reply without issue) with the virtual elements on top is incredible, but it's the immersive aspect which wins it. You can be in the 'real world' one second, then the next all be together on top of a mountain all watching a film on a giant screen together.

It really takes you out of the normal world when used like this. I can imagine using one on something like a flight would be perfect. The spatial audio is really impressive, too.

Even if you're not in the market for one, I'd suggest doing a demo at the store. The 3D recordings they have (which can be recorded on an iPhone 15 or the device itself) remind me of the Minority Report (if my memory serves me right when the protagonist is watching recordings of his family).

Brilliant marketing by Apple. I've not been amazed by something for a long time (the demo at the store).

Is it now essential for work? No, but I think we'll likely do some of the weekly meetings from now on given we're around the country and it's better than Google meetings.

Quite an expensive gadget, but one I am happy I have.
I was equally as impressed by the Apple Store Demo - wasn't sure if it was just me though as had not really tried any VR devices for a few years.

I think it's the Pro model phones you need to record video btw (or the VP device itself).

I can't justify the cost right now but was tempted - will see what happens over the next couple of years.

Yep sports and concerts are the obvious ones. Also plays and concerts that they sometimes live stream to cinemas would also work well I imagine.

When the iPhone 16 comes out there will be literally millions of people with the ability to record spacial video. They will just need something affordable to play it on.

I imagine a “Vision SE” could be the game changer…

ETA I’ve said this before with Apple products but direct comparisons with competing products miss the point. The simplicity of buying a new device, logging in with your Apple ID and having all your content waiting for you is worth the premium for many. No trying to get your Occulus or whatever to “play nice” with your photos, videos, music etc stored elsewhere…

I will do.

We've been joking we hate normal reality like Rick and Morty.

I can see the entertainment part continuing over the long-term. A normal TV doesn't compete with being able to create a 100 foot screen whilst sat in a virtual theatre or on a mountain to watch a film. It feels a bit how you're 'forced' to switch off at a cinema which is a nice feeling to recreate in the modern world.

The question will be whether we continue to use it for the long-term for work or whether it's just a new gimmick.

It also depends on Apple / developers to keep making content / apps to realise the full potential of the device.

Just checked, I have a Pro so I'll have to play about with it.

At present I can watch spatial videos on the Quest 3, you just upload them from the app on your iPhone with a couple of clicks. It also works with panoramas from an old iPhone 14 I have too. With every iPhone 16 shooting spatial videos there will be a big increase in people wanting to watch them.

There are quite a few competitors with VR headsets up to £1k, if Apple can get a vision SE out for £1k-£1.5k I expect they would sell loads of them.

The text quality issue is what knocked it on the head for me business wise…oh and typing being a bit of a pain.

If you’re in a visual business, like an architect, then I could see an application.

I believe you can pair a Bluetooth keyboard to the Vision Pro, which will make input a lot easier.

The finger stab keyboards aren’t brilliant. I was using a VR app of a desktop computer and that recreated the actual keyboard in VR but it wouldn’t be the easiest to use.

Been using it for a while now.

The work aspect was short lived - it needs more development / apps and isn't as good as just jumping on a virtual call.

The big screen to watch media is still excellent and would be my go to over any in-flight entertainment, for example.

For me, the best bit of the Vision Pro is the way it displays panoramic pictures. I've been taking so many on a recent trip to Italy and going back through them really takes you back to where you were vs a normal picture. I think they'll make great memories

The spatial video is also quite good. I had our wedding photographer take a video of us and it again, takes you ack into an event far more than a normal 2D video could.

I see there's been an update which allows you to turn older videos in to spatial video, but I've not had chance to look at this and the other updates yet.

What the panoramic looks like, as an example:

Have you tried it with 360 video? That's a brilliant use of a VR headset.

YouTube carries 360 and even 360 3d video. I use an Insta360 for some home movies and watching them back it's like you are there. At one family do I left it running at head height on a tripod and it's lovely to see my loved ones walking around and catching up (moreso having since lost a parent each).

I've not, and it appears if it's a bit of a faff with third party 180 and 360 media. Apple does provide 180 media which is pretty awesome.

There's no offical YouTube app for the Vision and VR media on YouTube doesn't work via a browser.

I’ve heard you can now enable VR through the Vision Pro browser by changing a setting.

You didn’t used to be able to do it, but now you can.

Meta has VR browser games, maybe something similar is now possible on Vision Pro too.

No. They used the existing Meta Ray-Bans.

They livestreamed the video feed to Instagram, had an AI program to run facial recognition on the livestream, used those pictures to search for similar faces on the internet, used the names of those people to examine electoral records and other sources, then sent the data back to the phone, all in real time. I think it took a couple of minutes to turn it around but they were allegedly able to come up with who a random stranger was, their work/education history, their relatives, their home address, etc. Quite scary.

Wife was shoe shopping so I walked into the Apple Store and noticed these, the advisor said sit down we’ll give you the full demo…

W O W !

I almost walked out the shop with one but I’m mindful of the usual first gen tech thing, if Apple keep going with this it’s the future and as soon as sports are broadcast in immersive to utilise these it’ll be an absolute game changer.

Can’t see partners liking them as it must make people feel isolated but what a tool. Felt like tomorrows world today.
