I use uBlock Origin on Firefox, works ok.
Just started to get a random pop-up when I open Youtube on Firefox, "Ad blockers are not allowed on Youtube". A click on the X gets rid of it, then it stays away for a while.

They need to edit the second bullet point. "Ads allow youtube to make billions worldwide"

Is there a way of stopping ads on YT for an iPhone?

I don’t use YT that much, certainly not enought to subscribe, just find the ads frustrating. I always skip / just do something else until they’ve played out.

Ublock Origin here using the following youtube filter blocking. I see no adverts and now warnings, I also run privacy badger and Tampermonkey chrome extensions. If you don't have these filters add them.

Adguard might do it but I have a feeling I tried and it didn't work...

But this is why I'll never own an apple phone, they continue to be too restrictive for me even if they are nice phones.

On android I use YouTube Revanced, it's easy enough to block on a PC and I side loaded some app onto the firestick that seems to do the job.

Youtube isn't making money, that's the problem.

If you are 'consuming content' on it without viewing the ads (or subbing to a paid Premium account), then they are losing money serving it to you.

There is a totally massive capital investment - and operational expenditure - in running the infrastructure that holds an immense amount of video and allows anyone to upload stuff to it to have it distributed to the World 'for free'.

I do often wonder if I should really just pay up considering how often I use it. A thought I've had for a while. The issue is some of the functionality doesn't really work too well and I'm loath to pay for something if it only partially works.

Right click the Ublock icon on the taskbar and choose options. Paste them in if they are not there and click on apply changes.

Youtube Premium. A few quid a month, you still support the channels you enjoy while never seeing any ads. And you get Youtube Music included. Why wouldn't you?!

Why would I?

I am sure they are doing just fine, and i suspect the only people complaining are the advertisers.

Out of interest, if the add is blocked, do the YTers miss out on that revenue as well/

Which bits of functionality are you wanting to see?

I find it works very well for me - I mostly watch it via AndroidTV on an actual telly but occasionally use the Mobile App or browser. The premium sub allows you to keep YT running in the background, even if you switch the phone screen off. Handy for listening to audio - I sometimes use my tablet like an audio player for podcast type YT shows if I'm at my PC, playing sound with the screen off. It also lets you download YT vids to SD card to view later without a connection (with auto download if you want). The ad-free part works regardless of what device/app you use if you log in - you just don't get served ads on your stream. And the music library/player app is a very nice bonus - enough for me to drop the sub to Amazon music I previously had.

The creators I watch still get paid - apparently better than as if I was generating ad views - so everyone is happy, so far. They have jacked the price up recently but its still good VFM. That may change over time of course.

I subbed because I literally watch it about 20x more than any other digital streaming source and the ads were starting to bug me. Now I use it instead of TV channel hopping - so dropped my TV license and moved to using the online sites/apps for the non-BBC channels. The BBC I'd given up on long ago so no loss there, I feel better not funding their propaganda pushing output.

The problem with YouTube music is that, if you listen to an album, the tracks that were released as singles have been substituted with the single version including the music video and the audio has been mastered to a completely different level, so the volume is all over the place as you go through the album. It's a pain. They should have just left the albums alone and kept the single releases separate.

You might want to read about the adpocolypse and the vast reduction in incomes for non-US YouTubers (probably US ones now as well). Additionally, if you watch educational historical channels which cover war (channels such as The Great War and World War Two) then they are already demonetised and so receive no income regardless of whether you watch premium or not.

Wish there was a way to block on Android TV. I watch YouTube on my TV set using the native (Android TV) app.

Alas no longer supports Smart TVs (putting aside the fact it would need side loading).
