Nokia 6310i - a eulogy
Discussion
Apart from the poo battery life, there's nothing wrong with my 6300. But.
But.
I've been pining for the 6310i!
So i bought one (another one!) off eBay yesterday.
It truly is the best phone evar.
Battery life is all-conquering - I've never owned a handset as good as the 6310i for this.
Radio performance is stunning - there aren't many phones that work on the Underground, but this is one that does.
Voice quality is of the first water - Mrs CJ can't tell I'm not on a landline when I'm whispering sweet nothings to her.
Build quality is astounding - I really don't believe there's another handset out there (well, possibly the Siemens C35, which was tank-like) that can sustain the abuse I gave my old 6310i and still stay completely functional.
No, it's not pretty and no, it's not got much memory, but good lord, I love this phone.
I'm not going to get rid of this one. I shall keep it until GSM is a distant memory of which tales are told to my great-grandchildren. Yea, even though I may have transient jackdaw-attractor phones of blingy nature, I shall cleave true to the 6310i.

Another fan here.
I'm on my second 6310i, only because I got another one on contract a few years ago for £50, and sold the old one on Ebay for £80. Go figure.
The front silver case on mine has lost a few flakes of paint from the bottom of it, just wear and tear. Where can I get a genuine Nokia faceplate for it? Ebay is full of them, but I have no idea what the quality of them is like.

I collected all the old ones from work as people upgraded! I keep mine as for some time it was about the only phone that MB supported on their HF kit.
What's the logical upgrade from a 6310i (good solid 'business' phone) - there are so many Nokia phones now I get totally confused.

I've had a couple. Generally, go a for a genuine Nokia fascia from a super-high-feedback store and you can't fall off. Don't forget the #6 Torx driver to dismantle the phone with.I'm on my second 6310i, only because I got another one on contract a few years ago for £50, and sold the old one on Ebay for £80. I got a new Nokia case and keypad from here : www.datakits.co.uk - although one slight word of warning their returns procedure was a real pain. They list items by original manufacturer or third party. I've moved to an N73....
Just checked, they've got black or silver, Nokia for 10.99.... You would need a keypad as well, but think they're 6.99 or something, again genuine. I did both for mine and the phone looked like new!! If I hadn't "upgraded" to an N73 I would have stuck with it, once I'd put the new bits on!!

I'm on my 2nd 6310i. Utterly brilliant still. I almost went for a Blackberry Pearl when my contract was up for renewal recently because my 4 year old 6310i was getting very tired, but then someone offered me a brand new, unused one for nothing and I grabbed it before he had chance to change his mind.

Yep, top bit of kit. Any more links for refurbished ones / car kits / new fascias appreciated...
Do you have to change the keypad if you are changing the fascia or did I just read that wrong?
You don't have to, but most fascias (esp. refurb) you buy will have a keypad with them.Do you have to change the keypad if you are changing the fascia or did I just read that wrong?
We had a big thread on this fairly recently (see here) in which we concluded that the 6310i was pretty unbeatable.
However, I did succumb in the end and get a 6300 and, apart from battery life, it is very good indeed. With very little tweaking the UI becomes very intuitive and configurable and in all honesty it makes the 6310i look very old fashioned.
I still have a huge soft spot for the 6310i though.
