I just wonder if the guides could have been bent slightly oval to produce higher oil consumption?

Yeah, it's possible I guess! It's also possible that one of them DOES have a tiny crack in it that I just didn't spot. Given that they are supposed to crack if they get dmaaged at all, it's possible that they aren't ductile enough to go oval, I guess.

My money is on the stem oil seals though. The ridges at the tops of the valve stems (where the collets sit) are quite sharp. I didn't think anything of it at the time but as I pushed the valves through the new seals, I wonder if I might have nicked the sealing lip on one or more of them....

Either way, it's within their tolerance and I ain't in a big hurry to take the head off again!
