Has anybody got any experience with Honda HRV's, the 5 door part time 4wd one?

I'm wanting to get the missus a new car and it's either a Jazz or one of these, I know about the Jazz as we had one in the family but the higher driving position and 4wd is an appealing prospect for her.

I don't want advice on alternatives thanks as these are the two we are looking to buy smile

Great little cars, we've had one since new running through the business. It's a nice high place to sit but with good relatively car like handling. Funky interior and nice driving position. If you can get one with the later vtec engine, bout 20hp stronger I think, as the standard one needs to be revved hard to get anywhere, and revvy it is.
I rate the old school honda viscous coupling 4wd system for 'lite' off-road duties as well, unbelievable fun in the snow, good fun, reliable and practical.

Can't help, but will follow this thread.

I wanted a large Honda hatch and it was one of these or an Accord. I chose the Accord because I'll be driving regularly on a fairly congested stop-start route, and I wanted an auto. Heard bad things about the HRV auto's box so shied away from it.

Had a lend of one from honda years ago, and thought it was good.

Probably before their time when you look at jukes, the evoque etc etc which seem to be following a similar theme.

We've had a Jazz and now and FR-V.
I wanted a HR-V as I loved the looks but the wife hated it and I couldn't find a decent auto one so we ended up with an auto Jazz.
I see you are looking at manual so no problem there?

In your position I would go for the HR-V over the Jazz as I am sure the ride is softer than the Jazz (not driven one though myself) and will feel a little more pokey plus it feels all 'lifestyle'!

I know you don't want any other suggestions but a FR-V really has to be in there unless you have already rejected it based on looks/price/etc.
Ok, that's my plug done for the day.

Yep, hand an old 3dr 2wd one. I really liked it, surprisingly direct steering and good handling, nice driving postion and not too large. A good car.

yes

I remember the fuss at the time. Oh my god, it's available as 2WD, what a fraud, how terrible. Now we have loads of 2WD soft roaders and the car buying public lap them up.

Regarding the HRV, I seem to remember these rode on unusual-sized tyres which could be expensive to replace. Worth investigating if you plan to keep it for a long time.

Thanks for the responses guys, they are cheaper than the Jazz for similar age/mileage too.
