Girlfriend got a peugeot 307 last year from an indie that was taxed.

Tax up for renewal this sunday and becase it is 08 i asume it has never had an MOT as they dont in the 1st 3 years to my knowledge!

Neither of us has ever had a car this new new before. When we try online it says no MOT found now on a car this new shoul she have got anything from the dealer surrounding the MOT!

I also belive it was a disibility car before she has it! To make things a little more complicated it has a private plate so i know its an 2008 car but dont know if it 08 or 58!

Where do we go from here as she also goes abroad for a week on sunday the day of he renewal!

Sorting an MOT before then is obviously the main factor but where does she
stand at the moment with no MOT?

How can we find out when the previous one expired as DVLA site states it has never had one but i would expect them to show it does have although i could be wroong on this!

Posted on iphone so sorry for any mistakes!

Any help much appreciated!

1. In your drivers handbook the original purchase date will be in it. If its not but the car has been serviced yearly check the service stamps and go back 1 year from the first one and this should give you the purchase month telling you if its an 08 or 58 plate.

2. If its not MOT'd shes not insured either. Dont drive the car until its on its way to the MOT station.

3. Assume the MOT is expired and get it done. You can get your car MOT'd whenever you like. Everyone only gets it done once a year as that is what is needed by law.

Im not 100% on this so if im wrong please all of you jump in but you should be able to find out of its an 08 or 58 by its V5 under date of first registration, if its the second half of 08 then it was a 58 plate, for example. I think its due for its first MOT three years after the date of first registration so if you're coming up to that then yes it will require one. But if you're not sure pop down the post office and try to tax it and they'll soon tell you what you need to do. Or give the DVLA a bell, i cant imagine it'd be the first time an issue like this has come up.

Again i apologise if im mistaken.

I think the log book states the previous keeper accuired the car in feb of 2008 which suggest 08 but the regustration date isnt always the same as the purchase date to my knowledge but i thought the earliest it could beregistered was april! Again could be wrong!

Cant be far gone for the MOT as im sure she would of been pulled over!

Car parked on private land with garage 100 yards around the corner so it wont be driven however the fact DVLA site states it has never had an MOT could it still have a ticket if it is in the 3 year period!

If i phone DVLA and find it is out of date could she expect a fine?

Let's not overcomplicate this! Look at the V5 registration document for the date of first registration. Three years after this date the vehicle will need an MOT.

No-one issues a reminder that the first MOT is due, that is the responsibility of the driver.

Great will check this in the morning!

Hopefully still in date will have to be a post office job!

The MOT will need to be valid when the tax disc becomes valid. For example if the car was registered on 31/08/08 and you were taxing it today 29/07/11, even though it doesn't require a MOT today to be legal, you still can't tax it as the new disc won't be valid until 01/08/11.

Why do the stupid KEEP churning out this crap! furious

Edited to add when she gets it MOTd by taking the V5C along they will do it up to 1 month in advance of the due date. That way you end up with up to 13months of MOT.

Right guys just checked and it was registered march 08 so is 4 months overdue!

Genuine mistake as like i say neither of us has owned a car this new before!

Car wont be driven until sorted and getting booked in either today or tomorrow!

Thanks again for the advice!

Oh another thing.... Once it passes is it updated to the DVLA immediately to sort online or does it update over night/ working day etc?

Immediately or as close as. I've taxed things online within five minutes of an MOT pass.
