Does my 1996 mondeo qualify for classic car insurance?
Discussion
Is it a 2nd car that you cherish and pamper, garaged, only drive a few thousand miles a year in it, member of the Mondeo Mk 1 owners club, require agreed value rather than market value as it's likely to increase in value...? Or is your everyday hack and think you can pull a fast one?
I'm sure insurance companies have never considered that.

Yes, it's my second car, a rare variant (4x4 - only 31 left apparently), garaged and well looked after. I do approx 2000 miles a year in it and I am a member of a ford mondeo club as it uses a specific gearbox I needed details of once and the club were very helpful. It's very low milage, in better condition than almost every other mk1 I've seen and I don't really know its value as they hardly ever come up for sale and when they do, they're usually wrecks with 150k on them.I'm sure insurance companies have never considered that.
I was only asking the question as a couple of friends had suggested it might be old enough, but they may have been saying that a bit tongue-in-cheek, much like your "reply".
Good on the OP. A MK1 Mondeo may not be everyones idea of a dream car to aspire to, but it would be an equally boring world if we all slavishly adhered to Ferrari, Porsche & there ilk. For my part, one day I will find a red 1988 E plate Pug 205 XS to replace the one I had when I was 18 - happy days.
There sre fewer Mk1 Mondeos on the road than Morris Minors. Rare models like the factory RS (body kitted Si), ST24 and Si 4x4 do qualify for classic cover but your shopping trolly models will be hard pushed. Unless you join the Ford owners club and get insured via them perhaps.
Give it try. For the sake of a few phone calls it could be worth it.
My Rover 213S qualifies as a "classic" but because I use the old girl for commuting I have a standard fully comp' policy.

Aw God, really? I wrecked a 1995 Ghia 4X4 two years ago, I knew they were extremely rare - I never actually saw another, only one Si, but I thought it must be a couple of hundred left at least?Ghia. From the days before Ghia X even existed

And for what it's worth on the topic, a lot of classic places now seem to say 15 years or, if it's interesting and lightly used, even less..
