We need a sofabed for the guest room. Equal first priorities are good comfort for the guests sleeping there (sitting comfort is less important), and contemporary looks.

Been looking at Natuzzi - any other places we should visit?

Or how about this one from Laura Ashely? I know that most of their stuff is not exactly contemporary, but this one looks good, and I can vouch for the sleeping comfort

Thanks for those. The Laura Ashley is a bit 'twee' wink but the others seem promising. Turns out the OH has a downer on both basic-sprung and memory-foam mattresses, so it seems I need to concentrate on pocket sprung?

I have not bought a sofa from them but did consider buying the owner's Porsche 993 Targa a while back. He seemed to be a nice guy and his sofa bed set up looked good. (I didn't buy the car as I decided on a coupe.)

I buy sofas from a few traditional UK manufacturers and got one Nottingham based company to make ours for home; traditional Howard style. I specified an Italian mechanism manufacturer called Lampolet, they do a king size mech. No word of a lie, every guest that has slept on it has remarked at the comfort - it's proper slat base with sprung mattress bed comfy.

Natuzzi went through issues a few years ago (some disgruntled uk dealer sent out an email of truths).

Edit; I see thesofabed.com mentioned above use Lampolet. Not sure if budget will allow, all in ours was £1800 inc. fabric at trade. The mech alone was £400ish +vat

We're off to thesofabed.com workshop ASAP. (FWIW, they are VERY efficient at sending out fabric samples.)

Thanks all.

The most comfortable sofa bed I've slept on was made by Multiyork.

Can't commend on it's longevity (it wasn't mine) but it was the only sofabed I've slept on that I found comfortable. The number of sofabeds that seem to have a metal bar right under your coccyx is amazing banghead

Might be worth a nose if there is a store near you.

Multiyork didn't suit us, because they didn't have a contemporary style with a >140cm wide mattress.

The other thing we've now focused on is mattress length - many we saw on Tott Court Road were 180-190cm. The thesofabed.com ones are (it claims) 2m long. And 14cm thick.

If they are similar model Lampolet mechs to ours, then yes they are 2m - we use normal king size sheets etc only real difference is the matt thickness.
