Looking for an alternative for a new garage.
Ideally I'd like to keep the roof pitch down to reduce visual impact but this then removes the option of a standard tiled roof as you need a 30 degree pitch to support them.
Cheapest option is corrugated Onduline which would do the job, is light and durable but frankly looks naff. However anything else light enough needs the same labour as tiles as they go on individually or at best in runs of 3 or 4 - cedar shingles, felt tiles or Oberon metal tiles. This then puts the cost back up to where a "proper" tiled roof is.
It will be a big area - 4 bay 40x18 ish.
So any other suggestions that go on in sheets, are light but don't look nasty?

Powder coated steel sheet (bix six type)

Can be had in Green.
Watch out for condensation - it'll drip like a shower without insulation!

Relatively easy to instal and much better than onduline for bigger applications

You could try having a look at Plannja Roofing sheets. They are plastic coated steel, but they are shaped to look like tiles. Widely used on t'continent, not su much in the UK, but they look a sight better than the normal corrugated sheets. We have this roofing on our log cabin and are very happy with it.
