Im on a scottish power tariff in which i get charged more for the first so many killowatts per hour for gas and electric per quarter.

I was wondering if they calculate primary and secondary per day, i.e. leave heating on all day and it gets cheaper as it uses more, or is it literally per quarter, i.e. you pay the primary charge all the time until you reach the threshold?

Or is it weekly? Thank you

So basically i pay the higher rate every day until i reach the kw rating and the subsequent months are cheaper? That doesent seem right at all because then you will have cheap and expensive months and ive never noticed that

Your monthly payment is calculated based on your estimated annual use.

So it averages out, same as it does for summer and winter.

But on my bills ive put in readings and it breaks down the charges saying some is primary some is secondary, and i do meter readings weekly and its on every bill?

You've lost me, I'm afraid.

Are you reading the meter and putting the readings into your account on Scottish Power's website every week? Normally meters get read once a year if you're lucky and everything else is estimated.

Read the tariff details - the charging should be explained there.

Nobody understands tariffs, that what's they're for. Imagine if you went to Tescos to buy some apples and they asked you to choose from 27 different apple tariffs - that's how silly it is.

I used to make videos for a metering company and I still don't understand it. Just look at the number at the bottom; that's all that matters.
