I have been given a reasonable quote on the replacment following a diagnosis, of £200 (inc part). I can get the part for £52.50 and was wondering if anyone has replaced this part as a DIY'er?

Im pretty good with fiddly jobs, but dont have experience of this type of repair other than watching others work on boilers.

Basically, am I silly getting info of the web and attempting this myself, and would it even be safe?!

Advice taken and I will get the professional to deal with it. I did kind of think it may be more detailed than first thought after looking at the Vokera PDF.

I hate not being able to do stuff myself!

Another quesiton; Apart from the small amount of hassle topping the systme up, is there any negative/damage effect on the boiler unit itself by running on lower than ideal pressure?

Yes, constantly topping up the boiler with fresh water will encourage corrosion and turn your system to sludge! As someone above mentioned, if the boiler is in a cupboard, you can fit an expansion vessel externally.
