The new RUF Rt 12
The new dimension of driving pleasure
The new dimension of driving pleasure has a name: RUF Rt 12. This high performance sports car is the perfect combination of high end performance and every day use.
The biturbo engines show the next evolutionary step of the RUF engine techno-logy. Three different performance steps are available: 530 bhp, 560 bhp and 650 bhp. The 650 bhp 3.8 liter engine is a new con-struction, which sets a new benchmark in performance and torque. 2WD is standard but 4WD is available on request.
The aerodynamic characteristics of the car are improved with RUF-developed front – and rear bumpers, rear spoiler and side mirrors. The air intakes for the intercoolers are
integrated in the wider rear fenders. The RUF Rt 12 is launched with the latest evolution of the RUF 5-spoke alloy wheels in a striking 19“ design at the front axle and
20” at the rear axle. The brake system has big drilled and ventilated discs and fixed light alloy monobloc callipers. The suspension is engineered for a maximum speed of more than 219 mph.
Available as an option is a special RUF sports suspension, which can be lifted hydraulically into a 50 millimetre higher position in order to get more ground
clearance for easier parking and garage entrances.
The interior of the Rt 12 has well known RUF-functionalism. Bucket seats and a handy sports steering wheel provide the best ergonomics for a sporty and non tiring drive.
The RUF instrumentation with the green typeface and the “Pepita” cloth in the middle of the bucket seats bring the flair of the 50s and 60s sports cars into a modern cockpit. Aluminium parts and details painted in the body colour provide the mix of classic and modern.
The Rturbo is also available with the latest version of the RUF Integrated Roll Cage (IRC) – leather/alcantara trimmed and very unobtrusive.

So which colour did you choose Guy?
I think we have a reasonable idea Jeremy... a very photogenic & exclusive club as we both know.
Guy, there is no mention of Carbon bodyparts...does that mean they are extras?
Are you going to test drive it?
Finally, if you do buy it does that mean i am going to have to make room in my garage for another one of your Porker hand me downs?

What a marvellous idea.

Guy make sure you don't order a damn sunroof as the orange car in the press photos appeared to have. OH, 650bhp of course, no point in thinking "if only...." afterwards.

Custom, cryogenically treated GT3 Motorsport steel discs are going on the R-GT2 this week.......
I'm waiting for a price-list and options list from Ruf for amusement.
It is interesting to note that the car is 2wd with 4wd as an option. It was the other way round for the 966 since I believe they purchased a complete 996TT engine/drivetrain from Porsche to start with. This means that the RT12 could have been built in one of two ways:
1. They start with a 997 bodyshell and insert a 996TT engine (increased to 3.8 litres).
2. They start with a virtually complete 997S (3.8) and fit turbochargers etc to this engine.
If I was to consider a change, I would prefer to have as lightweight a car as possible, so my two possible areas for consideration are:
1. Can they build an RT12 without the widened bodywork, without the massive 20" wheels, no sunroof, some carbon panels and the 650bhp engine.
2. If the engine is a new version of the 996TT engine, how much to upgrade the engine in my R-GT2 to the 650bhp spec.

Guy,
I heard about these a few weeks ago, please let me know how they perform when you can, as my recently fitted ones are cracked already !!!
Please don't tell my wife though !!

I think the 3.8 from the 997 with turbos bolted on would worry me on the longevity front, until any issues have been ironed out.
But if they warranty it I guess that's a whole different kettle of...
What little knowledge I have of these cars, I'd say a warranted RUF tuned Porsche block would be OK as far as longevity was concerned.
An 850bhp 9FF, now that's another kettle of.....

Guy, going off course a bit. With the cost of changing involved I'd be tempted to do something a little Adamesque. I'd be looking at spending the extra money on something Iconic. Which will also hold value. Get on the phone to the Alois and ask him to look out for a Ruf VIN Yellowbird to add to the stable.

The more I look into/partake of this obsession, the less concerned in fact, I become with regards to this issue.
Thing is, you end up spending so much money - on a decreasing returns to expenditure basis - that the whole exercise is frankly illogical anyway.
The actual costs of part/full rebuilds becomes just another expense in the overall game of what is a hugely expensive process in the first place so to some extent, in for a penny...
Personally, I've only done 15,000 miles in 4 and a bit years so if an engine only lasted this long, taken into consideration with all the expenses heavy driving necessitates anyway, what the hell?
It's mad, it's bad and it could bankrupt you but it's better to burn twice as bright than let that SOB in No.11 heist it all!

Daz,
They had a Red CTR1 that sold recently. Not sure I'd ever have the use for 2 Rufs though.........
Speaking of iconic, I have thought about a 959, should hold it's value forever, but the potential bills are frightening.......
DeR,
If an engine lasts a few years and is repaired quickly then it's less of a problem. On the other hand having had 4 engine rebuilds in 2 years in my Skyline and with the car having spent 21 months out of 25months in the workshop was not fun and resulted in my move back to Pork.
