Drivable Lego Bugatti Chiron!

This million-piece car uses electric motors producing 5.3hp and can do more than 12mph...

Replica kit cars have long been providing enthusiasts with a cheaper and often more rewarding way to drive something that resembles their dream car. Many end up looking like monstrosities that will convince absolutely nobody, while others are more impressive and require a keen eye to notice that they’re not genuine. However, there’s a new ‘kit car’ in town that’s been produced by Lego and, well, it is neither of the above.

Lego’s new creation is the Bugatti Chiron you see here, which, to be frank, it is not going to convince anybody of being the genuine model once they get up close. Not even grandma would mistake the car’s million-piece structure for the carbon-body of the real 1,500hp hypercar. Yet it is extremely impressive because, well, look at it! This is a 1:1 scale Chiron, made of Lego. Plus, it can actually be driven...

Lego called upon the real Chiron’s test driver and racing legend Andy Wallace to drive its newly built full-size model, which has 2,304 Lego electric motors that produce a mammoth 5.3hp and 68lb ft of torque. Wallace has previously piloted cars such as the 250mph Jaguar XJR-9LM racer to victory at Le Mans, but on this occasion, he reached a rather terrifying 12mph – 249mph less than the real Chiron can manage.

The whole stunt is undoubtedly part of Lego’s promotion for its recently launched Chiron 1:8 model, which can’t be driven, obviously. But it also shows just how creative a Lego fanatic can be with the company’s products. You never know, maybe this sort of kit could inspire the next Gordon Murray…

That's a bit of fun. Mind you Lego is rather pricey. According to the Telegraph the 1:8 Chiron is made up of 3600 pieces. It costs £330 on Amazon. That would make the million piece Chiron worth £91,666 in Lego pieces alone not withstanding the electric motor etc., Enough to buy the V12 Vantage in the spotted article. Man maths over.

Apparently the electric ‘engine’ would cost £20k!

Now that I'm not sure about - at 12mph top speed it might be as riveting as watching paint dry ;-)

This is great! If you have a crash, all you have to do is snap the bricks back together. Who needs a body shop anymore....

Pointless, tasteless, Harrods, vulgar.

There you go, before the usual suspects chip in.

Love it - hopefully some more technical (sorry) information will emerge about the motor, battery layout etc.

Love it. The very essence of what I loved about Lego technic as a child, I just hit the generation where Lego technic was first introduced as a brand.

Wow! That is incredible. I wonder what the first meeting was like when this was first suggested.
Lets build a full size Bugatti Chiron from Lego Technic that drives, but only uses Lego motors. I am sure there was a lot of laughter and comments implying that someone was on drugs.

Can't believe we've made it this far without a comment about the likely thickness of the instruction booklet.

Very good, but what I want to know is if I drive it will I end up standing like the test driver bloke in the picture? I mean that's not normal is it?
