We are looking at adding a pergola to our garden as part of a renovation, and it's a bit of a rabbit hole.....

We think anthracite coloured metal works well for us (we have sliding doors in similar colour) and looking at perhaps 3m x 4m.

On one hand you can pay £900 for a "rust proof" powder coated option in the size we want. On the other hand you can pay £4k for one!

Is there anything specific to look out for to distinguish good from bad in this minefield?

Many thanks!

Following this as we will be doing something similar soon.

I'm after one that has the adjustable roof.

As you say bit of a rabbit hole. My thinking is that the quality/thickness of steel/materials will be a key factor. I had a quote for one pre covid (different house, about 5mx5m with retractable sides) and iirc it was nearly £20k. I didnt go any further with it at the time as my jaw had dropped through the patio.

We got an electric fixed one from these guys a few years back. It still works and gets used every summer.

I’ve been looking at something like this for a rooftop terrace.

Has anyone fitted anything similar?

Put one of these on our 2nd patio last year - not much to report. Easy to put up; obviously hasn't had much use in the last 6 months.

Due to the moving 'roof' panels quite tricky to mount lighting and if heaters.

I bought a 3m x 4m white aluminium pergola with 4 drop sides & LED lighting from https://atmliving.com/ a couple of years ago.
It has 2 rows of roof louvres (manual - less to go wrong), lighting around the perimeter, and a fully retractable blind on all sides. Cost was £3400.

We love it - it has transformed our use of the garden as rain no longer stops play. I've also mounted a couple of infra-red heaters to extend its use.

There seem to be many to choose from now, some with no sides, some with the option of blinds, even glass panels/sliding doors. When I was looking, many could only have blinds on both short sides and one long side which didn't suit my needs, so watch out for this if relevant. The one I went for included blinds on all sides as standard and worked out cheaper than buying pergola and blinds separately.

This site used to be good for ideas: https://www.dancovershop.com/uk/products/pergola-g...
White Stores / Maze living are two others.

Sounds like the one I bought biglaugh .Made by Brustor (Belgian). Have to say it is brilliant and has added another 6 x 4m room to the house and means I can happily BBQ all year round.

I know when I was researching 3/4 years ago there seemed to be very few on offer. Judging by all the links in this thread that seems to have changed

We have been looking at these:

Seema an ok price for something which doesn't have a fabric roof to faff about with and have to replace at some point.

One of those for half the price would be ideal biglaugh

Yeah its not cheap but nothing is these days, I figured something which needs to last the UK winters year on year is going to cost more than I initially expected it to. I was expecting a grand or so but in reality, I may have to spend 2x that.

Hi , We have just got a Titan pergola, built the frame up no bother onto our existing level decking , what we're wondering is how do we do the incline so the rain runs down into the channels ?
We are fitting the louvres side panels on all sides.
Any help appreciated.

We're thinking of an aluminium veranda/pergola - likely with polycarbonate roofing (as glass seems both expensive and heavy). It's to go on the patio attached to the house (or even standalone, but right up against the rear house wall.

The issue I'm having is finding one that is "deep" enough - looking for something that will extend 5 metres from the house wall, and 6-7 metres wide.

Any suggestions please - ideally from somewhere that will also fit it, but DIY is a possibility if that's the only option?

I had a 7m wide pergola installed earlier this year. It came via an installer who ordered it from germany as the off the shelf stuff rarely does more than 4 or 5m width. It’s a serious piece of kit, and equally expensive. The (very much) cheaper option is to get 2 small DIY type pergolas and bolt them together, but you end up with a leg in the middle of the vista which we didnt want.

Those with aluminium pergolas, the type with a louvred roof…

When the louvres are closed is the roof watertight?

Are there any reasons why I wouldn’t be able to cut the legs down to shorten them, to lower it?
