I have seen an approved LR Evoque I like.

Car is at 36k and WBAC is at £24k.

Whilst I appreciate dealers have to pay for their glass palaces what would be a realistic offer based on peoples experience in dealing with LR dealers. I’ve only dealt with BMW previously and they were notoriously difficult.

Thanks in advance.

Forget the WBAC pricing when buying a main dealer car, it's not relevant.

It is when you trade in and gives an accurate trade price.

I do appreciate there is a big difference in retail at a main dealer and WBAC but it shouldn’t be 50% more.

I do find this assumption that WBAC is somehow the new car pricing metric strange.

If the car you are looking at favours well against other similar spec cars then surely that’s your answer.

You are buying a fully prepped warrantied main dealer retail car. WBAC is immediate cash purchase price. You can't buy at the WBAC price.

Ok, can I make it clear that I know I will not be able to buy a main dealer approved car at the WBAC price or anywhere near.

I just want a feel as to how open LR dealers are to negotiating so ignore the WBAC reference and I’ll ask as to what would be a realistic offer for the example above without being laughed at.

Thanks.

In my experience sweeteners rather than a discount is more realistic.

Deposit contribution if taking finance or additional prep items such as a service or new tyres are more likely, these have more value to the customer than the cost to the dealer.

Pure cash off, £500 to £1000 max?

Thanks for your reply. Seems very much like BMW was.

My FFFAB was on the forecourt at 62500 and I picked it up for 60k, including two services, and two years warranty if that helps you

Have you checked if you can get an acceptable insurance quote for it?

That is a big gap.

Put details into autotrader value my car bit, see what that says for px

Maybe wbac predicting a downturn in the market?

Or maybe just trying to lowball in the run up to xmas?

In my experience demand at the auctions dropped in dec, then came back strong in january.

I read that there's cheap chinese cars coming to the UK next year, will they have an effect on new car prices?

Who knows.

You have absolutely zero idea how much the dealer paid for that car, just because WBAC says £24k today, it doesn't mean st, yesterday or the day before it may have been £30k, all the WBAC figure shows is what they want to give for that car at that moment in time, it means absolutely nothing.

If it is priced competetively vs the market then it is the correct price and one is assuming it is, otherwise you wouldn't be interested!

Been commented on in various threads over the last few weeks - they're quoting very low on pretty well everything, but especially JLR.

It might help people on here make an educated guess if you were able to provide a little more information, for example dealer's margin on the vehicle, their desire to shift it quickly, their cashflow situation, their debt interest repayments, progress on their targets, demand for that spec/model, stock levels, weather forecast etc..

Who knows? One dealer (not JLR) near me operates a strict 'no discount policy'; some incoming stock already has buyers lined up, some stuff sells within days, sometimes they trade out slow moving stock and sometimes they hold on to a particular 'unit' for a long time, ie one they've had since July 2020. It's been reduced once in that time, by approx 8% of the original asking price.

Make them an offer. See what they say.

Don't Mercedes now have a no haggle policy, the screen price is the sale price?

Is the insurance issue that's blighting FF Range Rovers also a problem for Evoques?

Law of the market. If the dealer believes they can sell it at full price (to you or anyone else) - no or minimal discount. Maybe some sweeteners can be had, if you don’t annoy them.

If it’s been on the forecourt a few weeks, not shifting, then maybe you might get a discount similar to what they themselves will mark the car down by to shift it. Usually around 5%.

Not in my experience. My insurance went down on the last renewal.
It might help if we knew the age and spec of the car in question.

Obviously wasn't that bothered about getting the Mercedes then, anyhow I thought this Mercedes no haggle policy was on new only.
