Need some help here.

I drive about 18-20k miles a year (including probably 2 trackdays or so).
Car will not be garaged.

Do I buy the Monster V8 CLK55 and to hell with the fuel bill, subtle handling and softtop and ignore the moster milage prety easily.

OR

Buy a s/h Boxster, feel guilty about raking millions millions of miles on it but enjoy the summer a lot...

How sensitive to mile is a boxster S going to be (a lot more than a Merc obviously...)

any thoughts chaps?

V different cars obviously...I would go with CLK55 myself.
10 minutes ago I saw a CLK55 droptop,in a red metallic,
serious looking older guy driving, correct bodykit, alloys, exhaust and it was making all the right noises,,,,find one of these and there is no decision to make.

Am I missing something here.....CLK55 AMG 60k + secondhand Boxter S £30k....... If you looking to spend 60k put a deposit down on the new facelift 997 due autumn 2004 & buy the Boxter S to run in the meantime !!!!

Ok I'll clarify.

OLD model clk55 2000/ 2001 available for 30k or thereabouts.

Pros and cons as I see it :

CLK55 - brutally quick. Big V8 thunder noise, room for 4 , subtle (ish), happy outside in all weathers more toys than i could imagine. 349 bhp, + option for supercharging if I get bored

Boxster S - quick enough, roof comes off, it is a porker, drives beatuiful, worried about keeping it outside all the time. 250 bhp..

Main question is :

If I get a boxster s with say 25k on it and run it for 2 years and it ends up with 70k will it be worth buttons? (IMHO err probably - what do you lot think) ?

Mr Tony: Yes any Porsche is going to depreciate with high mileage. So will the Merc.

The Merc should eat business mileage for breakfast and ask for more at lunch and dinner too.

The Boxster S certainly can be an everyday car (mine is) but will lose value with big mileage, of course. It also has the impractical feature of only two seats.

But so what (and I know I would say this...)

At the end of the day you've got to ask one question.

"Do I want to go around corners?"

Mr Tony; I think they are both quite different cars each rather good at the rather different things that they do.

I had a C Sport and now have a 98 Boxster that lives outside quite happily up on't'moors here in Yorkshire. The only time it leaked was when I pressure washed the hood! I know you shouldn't but I didn't have the time to hand wash it. And we are far enough from civilisation to be scratter free and hence damage free.

If you want an effortless motorway destroyer - Mercedes.

If you want roof down fun and massive grip and handling - Porsche.

Drive them both then take your pick - great or great?

Check your pulse. If it stops when you turn off the pacemaker, buy the Merc.
