We're looking for a list broker who can supply certified opt-in, named e-mail addresses.

The lists should be businesses over 500 employees in the South East - human resources and financial directors/senior managers.

The opt-in bit is crucial.

Any recommendations?

One recommendation - DONT DO IT, i for one currently collect the names of all UK businesses that use spam opt in or another form of unsolicited mail to which I do not directly subscribe, and that list is a list of companies that I will not under any circumstances do business with and when the time comes I look forward to ensuring that the MD of those companies knows why.

I also recommend other people do the same, and know a large number that do.

Totally agree!

However, this is a request from a client who happens to be a large local authority - specifically the division that deals with inward investment and business development. What is going to be sent is not a sales pitch but genuine business information targetting businesses in the South East delivered via an E-Newsletter.

We have been told that lists exist of receipients who have agreed to receive this information and would benefit from the content but niether our client or us have established from where - hence the posting.

Legislation has been introduced this month that prohibits companies from sending unsolicited e-mails in the UK (this applies to the B2B community only). The Southampton Institue has been the first company to be fined under this legislation.

I'll try and find the details and post it seperately.

We do not approve of Spamming and would turn down any project that uses the technique.

Well played steve,

But these guys are really wasting their money, the situation with spam is now so dire I have had clients change their domain names to get away from it and not bother forwarding the old one. which means that opt in or out it wont get read.

The best way forward is to look at the pistonheads model of sponsoring site e-mail where people genuinly want the mail and the add is tagged on the end, at least that way there is a glimer of hope that someone may read it

It is money down the toilet.
