I've got this gas boiler in me kitchen, and it appears the little pilot light thing has gone out. Any ideas how to light it again?
I guess you want to know what modek etc it is, but I have no idea. It's eight years old if that helps...little window where a small flame can usually be seen...

ps - Hate to rush you, but Its getting cold in here...

Man thanks.

There should be instructions on how to do it on the front, or inside a fold down flap somewhere. If all else fails, take it apart and use a match. But if it blows up and kills you, don't blame me.

Yeah, thing is I took the front flip down cover off a while ago when it was making a silly noise....no idea where it is now though.

A match eh? Think it would help if I loosened the gas main fisrt?

To relight the pilot light, soak a rag in petrol, hold this in front of the boiler. Take a large fan and use it to blow past the rag towards the boiler.

Light the rag, moving it so that the flames flying off it go towards the boiler. Even if your boiler doesn't light, your place will get warmer. hehe

That's as useful a reply as you're likely to get until you can describe your boiler accurately. A pic will do if you have no other info about it.

Oh yes, gas main nice and loose so it can't hold back any of the gas pressure. Wouldn't want that in a re-light situation would you?! wink

If you actually want a sensible answer, a pic would help.

Probably a round knob (Grey) push that in to let the gas out. Find the Ignition button and push it (should see it spark in the window) may have to push it very fast as will only spark once per "click". After flame can be seen keep hold of grey button for 20 secs then let go and it should stay lit.

Cheers.
I'll try and get a pic. Can't see any ignition button though. Found the flip down thing, and followed the instructions, you know turn this off, turn that on, wait 15 seconds....but still no joy.

Do you have a gas cooker? Does that still work? Just in case the gas is off for some reason.

The pilot blows out on mine in strong winds in a certain direction - you may not have a fault.

The relight process on my boiler is to evacuate the boiler of all gas for a minute or so by turning a knob to a stop and holding it. Then, you can do the pressing of the clicky igniter thing. I am not saying that yours is the same, but you could press the clicky thing till the cows come home and nothing will happen if this evacuation process is required first.

I would have a good scan around it for any identifying numbers, and get onto google. If that fails, pop a piccy up here and maybe one of the corgis can help tell you what it is.

Many thanks, I'll search for the model. Really can't see a clicky thing, and don't want to take the front off as there's a blody grea warning not to unless the gas is off!

You shouldn't need to take the front off to get to the relight mechanism. Just the fold down bit with the instructions on that you have lost would reveal all the buttons.... oops, sorry about mentioning that wink

Do not take the main cover off.
