Interesting article. First Tory to say they might win the next election, and talk about a referendum on Lisbon if it hasn't been ratified yet.

With regard to Lisbon; if Ireland and the other naysayers haven't been bullied into ratification before our GE, is it not plausible for us to pull out......if the people decide that way, that is?

Id be happy to see Lisbon kicked so far out of the door it would have crossed the channel before it landed. It is and always was dross.

Look at what happened to Kinnock. He was so sure.

But Hague is a decent politician.

Hague will be PM one day and a great one.

Hopefully kicking Lisbon into touch will be the first step.
Step 2 will be dealing with the corruption in Europe.
Step 3 pulling back from the invasive legislation and going back to free trade only.

"Well allright". The British public took one look, shuddered and voted for Major.

In retrospect a shame. Kinnock would have been a truly awful PM, Labour would have been in for 4 or 5 years and kicked out and the Tories, probably led by Clarke, would have taken over in 96 or 97 and Blair may never have been leader....
