(Mods, putting this here as no one goes in the jobs forum!)

My better half has had a lot of experience as a Personal Assistant/Secretary/Business Support but she wants a change, she's had 2 interviews (and done brilliantly) but for jobs that pay slightly less, one as a Receptionist and another as an Events Assistant, nothing that she hasn't done before.

I personally think that she's sticking in her comfort zone and only applying to do the same thing that's she doing now, and should be looking for more responsibility and to move her pay level up 2-3k.

The job she's interested in at the moment is 2 grand less than she's on, and she'd be based in 2 different places (hour split not yet known), and have to drive (She walks to work at one location at the moment). The role consists of things such as organising meetings, general admin, things she could do in her sleep to be honest.

Only problem is I'm not sure what the career progression should be for her? I don't know what someone with her experience and job history ends up in typically? Any suggestions?

She's really keen on the Charity Sector (She's had a couple of positions, one helping out as an events assistant and another doing general administrative work)

I think she's keen to get into Events, personally I think she should be applying for something more challenging but it'd be nice to have the opinion of someone that's been there and done that before!

Thanks for any advice anyone could give smile

Whereabouts are you based? The sort of thing I do she'd probably enjoy - Corporate Relocation - it's a cross between HR and Project Management but essentially you just need to be organised, efficient, and willing to have a go.

Forgot to add, she's 27 and been to Uni so I'm not sure how viable that would be?

The reason she wants a change is because unhappy in her current job, and doesn't get many holidays a year.

I'm just not sure whether it's worth taking less money to get out of it, I've got it drummed into my head you should always move upwards?

Another shameless bump for the evening crowd =)

I think she's going for the lower paid job as it seems really interesting.

Gah, no use I'm afraid, Swindon based me.

But it's a global business with places everywhere, you never know, it may be something to investigate.

Doh, she's been offered 2 jobs, one's about 1k more but she'd have to travel 18,000 miles a year... but it's an NHS job and I've heard the benefits can be quite good?

is that 18,000 miles a year at 40p a mile? If so, it could be quite a large payrise wink

I don't think so, I don't think many employees pay fuel for commuting to work?
