Same old story - redundancy due in November this year....rolleyes

Looking to continue my career in IT 3rd line desktops support.

I've registered on monster / Total Jobs etc, but it does seem that fewer & fewer roles are filled by people scouring the internet.

What methods of job hunting have people found successful for IT roles?

Is it worth contacting the local agencies directly / trade papers / ?????

Thanks in advance

www.Jobserve.co.uk mainly.

But I do also deal with the agencies direct.

try.

Colin Foster - Sappire Technologies - 01173116461

Tim Frost - Redrock Consulting - 01179706905

David Nock - Sandersons - 01179706666

I know you are going to say they are based in Bristol but don't let that put you off. The do get vacancies from all over the place.

In addition to the above, I've found work by contacting people I've worked with before and finding out if their employer is recruiting. Sometimes you find a position before it is advertised.

If you're OK with working in the public sector, some organisations don't advertise in the press to keep costs down, so it's worth looking out the websites of your local council, NHS, fire service, police etc for support jobs.

That is a very good point. Thanks for that.

I'll get on their sites in the morning.

last time I was in that position (I was in 3rd line support at the time) was back in 1997. As above - get your CV out there with agencies/online.

Nothing came up for me for 3 weeks, then I had a job offer, but 150 miles away, temp 3 month contract. I went for it, and it was the best thing I ever did. A life changing moment, and the point at which my career took off and went from strength to strength.

So my advice - be flexible, dont give up, dont turn down jobs because they are more than xx miles away, you may have to put yourself out a bit, live in digs, whatever it takes to get job you want, but in the end it will pay off smile
