I've recently started a new job and our company accountant has highlighted that I may be on the wrong tax code.

I used to get private healthcare in a job a couple of years ago but haven't received that benefit since January 2008 and the only other deduction I have is my student loan.

I'm assuming I need to go and talk to my local tax office and see what they can do for me. What information do I need to take with me? Recent payslips and P45/P60s?

What is the current tax code for a standard rate tax payer? Currently my tax code is 406L

Cheers,
Phill

Fun game this, I'm currently working on some tax repayments as I've recently done a years work split over two tax years before going back to uni.

Best advice, ring the local tax office.

"Normal" 2009/10 tax code for a person with no benefits or other factors affecting their tax liability is £6,475 (647L)

2008/09 was £6,035 (603L)

2007/08 was £5,225 (522L)

If you stopped receiving that benefit in January 2008, I would expect that you have overpaid income tax for part of 2007/08 and all of 2008/09 and all of 2009/10 (so far).

Phone your tax office (the number is on the coding notice) and explain the situation to them. They may sort the tax situation out for you without you having to do anything else.
