The old insurance debate
Discussion
Sunninghill were the cheapest for my wife and I. We phoned round most of the others mentioned and Sunninghill were about £500 cheaper than the next lowest!
My Tuscan is insured in my wifes name with me as a named driver. Wife - 38, full no claims, clean license. Me - 29, no no claims, 3 points for speeding, 18 months d/d. Fully comp £692, (£500 excess) including 30 days driving in Europe and track days! Much cheaper than I anticipated.

Sunninghill were the cheapest last year at about 1200. This year they want much the same.
Mannings are almost half but they want a thatcham approved immobiliser and alarm, plus a tracker. Unfortunately a 92' or 93' Chimaera uses an alarm / immobiliser that is not Thatcham approved.
Tesco seems to be the the cheapest at 850, but their system doesn't recognise my 4.3.

If you have an older car, Heritage (advertise in Sprint) are very keen. I have my 4.3 Griff with them. Agreed value policy £450, which I don't think is bad at all.
In fact there is a young guy at work who was paying more than that 3rd party on an old Nova. You should have seen his face when I told him !!

I'm with Sunninghill... £460 for my Griff 500 (and you get RAC cover/trackday cover etc..) and about to make my first claim (only had the car 8 weeks, not my fault I add..)... watch this space and I'll let you know what their service is like when it comes to the er crunch... pardon the pun...
[]Trying to renew my insurance and want to make sure I have phoned all the companies that are currently competitive.
Can anyone reccomend anyone other than:
Sunninghill
A Manning
Tesco
Peart
Norwich Union.
I would suggest you try Carole Nash they are big in bike insurance and are just getting into car insurance and their premiums would appear to reflect this. 0800 298 5566
Thanks alot, and nice weekend all

I've used Cheam Insurance for the last 7 years and they have always been able to get me the best deals around by far. When Norwich Union jacked up ther club rates outrageously last year they swithched me to Groupama. For the record my insurance with them for my 4.5 Cerbera is £780 for unlimited mileage, full business use, protected no claims bonus, legal cover and wife as named driver. I'm 49, no claims for 21 years, in Oxfordshire, no points BUT with a 7 day ban in 1999 for SP50. Without the ban it would have been over £100 less! On a like for like basis, Norwich union wanted £1080 & Privilige £900.
Hope this helps

Whatever you do make sure your uninsured losses are adequately covered.
If possible vet the company outsourced to do it as most of them are fing useless.
Get in writing EXACTLY what they are going to offer you by way of service.
Make sure they know what a TVR is.
Getting a good quote price is one thing, recovering your uninsured looses is something completly different.

if the accident is not your fault and you are injured, it doesnt matter if you have legal expenses cover. any firm of solicitors will take the claim as they will be able to recover their costs. Going directly to a solicitor will avoid anything being deducted from your claim. It also means you can chose a solicitor that you think is OK.
If the accident is your fault, your uninsured losses will not be recoverable any way.
So that only leaves accidents that are not your fault and you are uninjured. You can write to the other driver's insurers direct and provide them with details of your uninsured losses. The majority of the time, they will pay up if they accept liability and there is no "complications". The worse comes to the worse you can sue them in the small claims Court.
it is for these reasons that i dont bother with legal expenses cover at all.......

Thanks for the suggestions people. Finally got insured for a whisker under £900 with my current insurers Sunninghill.
Cheam were 20 quid cheaper but did not include RAC cover and had a higher excess.
Mannings were v cheap but wanted too much extra security.
Anyway, thanks again for your suggestions.
