Have a look at that site mate. It's focused on IT mainly but the basics are transferable to any industry.

Do you know where you stand with regards to IR35?

You could really do with speaking to an accountant to be honest mate.

I'm pretty sure he is in IT. wink

Do you have an accountant? You will need one. They can set a company for you, or buy a 'reconditioned' one for very little money - £50 ish plus their fees when I did it.

Since IR35 you cannot claim that much if you have a single, long term client; it is only really worth it for the limited status.

Do get a recommendation for the accountant; a good one will save you £££s and a bad one cost you more.

Set up my Ltd Company on 30th June via Companies made Simple, was a company director in 3 hours.

Accountant found via a good friend.

IR35 - google it. Search here too. But my contract seems to have all the right wording.

What can you claim ?

Okay so far I've YET to actually pay myself a wage (as my previous employer is still paying me until sept 26th)

However, I've paid expences to myself.

40p a mile
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and Cost of digs cause I work away.
Stationary, including a lap top, and any other costs incurred like car parking, taxi's phone top ups etc.

Accountant is insisting I must employ my wife as a 'Researcher, and admin assistant' to use her tax allowance.

She's actually doing a bit of research as an ex nurse she looking into lean in the health service and talking to people she knows about future leads, so I don't think the tax man can complain.

So say my other half is looking into getting into GIS and will be from the end of the month (finishes her masters in GIS) i can use her as a researcher and class her looking for job in the area as research and use the tax credits until she gets a job?

And the buying of a top end pc for working on my research in the industry I work in (need a windows on for C# development rather than my laptop) can be claimed against? VAT only or the whole cost? I can use the MacBook I have but the 13" screen makes coding on it impossible due to size of screen and the info i need on the screen to work.

Have you sorted the accountant thing out yet? I would make it No.1 priority.

My job today, have asked a few people and awaiting replies, but does anyone know a good accountant anywhere?

Dont suppose it matters if its in the London area or not?

Claiming for breakfast, lunch and dinner is pushing it. Esp if you are renting digs - you would still eat even if you were not living away? I would.

Have you looked at the PCG?
