Or at least the most frustrating, I think I would be banging a few heads together.

Hell fire. Why would you catch a chair lift knowing that you're not competent enough to get off it? Saying that though, we were snowboarding in Pamporovo, Bulgaria a few years back and my mate got his backpack strap stuck on the seat as he was trying to get off. Thought it was going to take him back to the bottom biggrin

Well, we all have to learn sometime I suppose. Maybe that was a group of beginners coming up the lift together.
That aside, they have updated many lifts in resorts to make them easy to use, but some old ones are still around that catch even the most experienced out sometimes.
There's a drag lift in Avoriaz that puts me on my ass every time I use it!

Amature!

When I was little I just got on a button lift, the jolt at the beginning made me fall off, with a toggle from my coat wrapped around the seat/pole. I was dragged for about 10 meters. The operator done nothing, my dad had to push the stop button.

Would you go up a mountain knowing that you had to contend with that lot on your way back down?

What do you do with your ski's hold them in your hands and have them across everyones lap who is with you!!?? Hardly easier!

I am guessing you arent a regular skier/snowboarder! smile

Nope only been about 6/7 times in total hehe but saves me looking like a tit when I get to the top. only ever been to Aviemore

I usually go with other people I know, so having skis across thier laps isnt a problem, they have thiers over mine, but would just carry them upright.

Everyone did that once when they were beginners so you can't criticise. Gotta start somewhere!

Funnier are beginners falling off J-bars when the spring maxes out smile

I worked on ski lifts for about 6 months in whistler BC.

This video really doesn't demonstrate how mind boggling stupid many people are. In the summer we had walkers and tourists on the lifts. The lift to whistler peak is an open chair just like in the video.

50% of all users did exactly the same thing, they'd pull the bar down at the bottom, place their feet on the attached foot rests and ride up at the top with their feet still on the foot rests they'd try to raise the bar with their feet still on the foot rests, getting frantic as the realised the bar wouldn't rise.

They'd shout at us that the chair was broken or put massive effort into trying to lift the bar. At which point for the 1000 time I'd say "if you'd just take your feet off the foot rest the bar will raise sir"

Aviemore had the benefit of a ski lift which was designed to stop at the top for people to get on and off though, as it was used by walkers and skiers, so you could take your skis off. Not ideal admittedly. Any resort which requires you to ski off the lift would take a pretty dim view of it though as you would cause big hold ups when they had to stop the lift to let you off.

Hasn't been a chairlift at Aviemore /Cairngorm for years now though. Its the funicular railway and tows only

Crikey, that's bad.

You can see it's on a nursery slope from some of the pan-right shots, which explains the beginners.

The ONLY thing most of them are doing wrong is simply not standing up!

They half lean forwards as if to stand up, but then slide backwards immediately after!

You only have full control on skis when leaning forwards, the the further forwards you are when you get off a chair lift, the less likely you are to have problems.

Honestly. Imagine trying to stand up off the sofa by making a half-assed semi-lunge. You'd end up sitting down again straight away! Only in this instance, the sofa would have moved three feet, and you're already sliding across the floor!

We all had to start somewhere, but my word....

And he's probably sweating like a paedophile in mothercare too! Running around after that lot, he's probably worn out by the end of the day.

anyone know where that is - looks like the Vega in Les2Alpes but it could be anywhere I guess.

The seat does look like a bit of a pig to stand up from - the way it's angled back
