This Sunday's Sunday Times Driving supliment has an article on Essex Scameraship, featuring Captain Gatso
Hidden towards the end is this nugget:
Essex Scameraship claimed in March 2002 a 21% decrease in accidents at camera sites.
BUT
Government figures released the following year, actually showed a 15% rise in the number of deaths and serious injuries within 50 metres of a camera in Essex.
Also: Essex claimed 103,488 drivers paid their FPN's in 2002. The Home Office stated that 166,725 fines were paid in Essex for that year.
