Anyone live in the Bristol area listen to GWR FM? They were reporting this morning that the City Council is planning to close Ladies Mile for 18 MONTHS. To 'cut down pollution and accidents'.

WHAT THE FK ARE THESE PEOPLE ON??????

Can't they see that all this will do is move the traffic onto Bridge Valley Road and other roads nearby, causing congestion, more pollution, more accidents and general chaos in these areas?

Who is the imbecile who thinks up these moronic ideas? And why haven't they been taken out and shot?

Bloody Bristol bloody city bloody Council. Why are they so determined to make motorists life a misery???

Are they talking about doing it 24/7, then?
There were murmerings a while back about closing it at weekends, which does make a certain kind of screwy sense.

{edited to add:} Don't think I've ever seen an accident or even heard of one on Ladies Mile - apart from me nearly squashing various cyclists and runners who choose to use the road at night without lights and/or in dark clothing

As far I can could tell it would be 24/7. And I've never heard of or come across an accident on Ladies Mile. All the accidents happen on Bridge Valley Road - where a lot of the traffic from Ladies Mile will end up.

If they introduce congestion charging, feel free to join me in the ensuing riot. Doing this in Bristol will kill any number of small businesses - and create more chaos as people struggle to find places to park outside the charging zone. I'm sure they will expect people to take the bus instead, but the bus network in Bristol would collapse if they did. It simply couldn't handle it.
